Democrats Have Made Sure That Brett Kavanaugh Will Never Get A Fair Hearing (The Federalist)

Without the emergence of new evidence, we will never know if Christine Blasey Ford’s accusation against Brett Kavanaugh is true or not. There’s nothing Kavanaugh can do or say that will clear his name. But if you’re a man, a single uncorroborated account that dates back to 1982 is all your critics need to accuse you of attempted rape.

There is no possible outcome in which Democrats will concede Kavanaugh’s innocence, or even concede that we can’t really know what transpired on that night 36 years ago. Republicans can accede to as many hearings as Democrats demand, and it won’t alter any of the liberal rhetoric or perceptions of partisans. Republicans could put Kavanaugh’s classmates under oath and have them deny that anything inappropriate or criminal occurred that night, and it wouldn’t. It doesn’t matter if 65 women come forward and attest to Kavanaugh’s sterling character — in fact, for Democrats, it’s merely confirmation that the judge is covering something up. It doesn’t matter that, as far as we now know, there’s no pattern of bad behavior from Kavanaugh into adulthood (unlike say, Roy Moore or Bill Clinton). [Read More]

Trump would accept ‘a little delay’ on Kavanaugh (The Washington Times)

President Trump said Monday he’s willing to accept a delay in the GOP’s push to quickly confirm his pick for the Supreme Court in order to sort out new allegations, but said he’s still backing his man, Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

“Never even had a little blemish on his record,” Mr. Trump said.

The president said he hasn’t spoken with the judge since allegations became public last week that the judge, while a high school student, attempted to force himself on another student.

But Mr. Trump brushed aside the suggestion that Judge Kavanaugh withdraw: “What a ridiculous question.”

The president said Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who has accused the judge, deserves to be heard, but said the process has been tainted after Democrats had her allegation in hand in July but didn’t pursue it until last week — after the judge had sat for two days’ worth of questions. [Read More]

Last month, I picked up my children from their first day back in American elementary school after three years at a French school in Belgium. They both looked glum. “Did you make any friends?” I asked hopefully.

“What’s the point?” my 7-year-old daughter said. “Recess is too short.”

In Brussels, they had 50 minutes of recess plus a 20-minute mid-morning break. In Washington, they have 30 minutes of recess total. The school district here guarantees just 20 minutes, and some American schools offer just 15 minutes, which is the amount of time it takes most children just to get out the door. In Belgium, regardless of the weather, recess was always outdoors. In the District, if it’s too hot, too cold or too rainy, the children have indoor recess — which, at our school, Lafayette Elementary, is held in the classroom because of a lack of available gym space. Later that week, my 10-year-old son reported watching a short film at school about how the kids of my generation “didn’t have video games and had to play board games.” The point, he explained, was that kids should get off screens and play together (never mind the irony of teaching this message through a screen).
