Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh ‘categorically’ denies claim about alleged behavior in high school (FOX News)

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh vigorously denied claims involving an alleged high school incident made in an undisclosed letter and turned over to FBI by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.

“I categorically and unequivocally deny this allegation. I did not do this back in high school or at any time,” Kavanaugh, 53, said in a statement Friday.

Feinstein ignited controversy Thursday by releasing a statement saying she turned information about Kavanaugh over to the FBI. She did not detail the accusation, and Republicans accused her of trying to orchestrate a last-minute smear. [Read More]

Officials working on solutions to address student overcrowding concerns in Montgomery County (FOX 5 DC)

Sorry folks, that skeleton from your closet does not qualify you to ride in the high occupancy vehicles (HOV) lanes.

In Washington State, highway patrollers are cracking down on drivers who try to sneak their way into carpool lanes, some with more creative attempts than others. [Read More]

D.C. Council to hold first hearing on repealing Initiative 77, the tipped wage hike (The Washington Post)

The fate of a wage hike approved by voters for servers, bartenders and other tipped workers in the nation’s capital comes before the D.C. Council on Monday.

A majority of the council wants to repeal the measure, which was passed by 56 percent of voters in June, and about 250 witnesses have signed up to testify for what is expected to be a contentious hearing.

Businesses are required to pay tipped workers at least $3.89-an-hour under current law, as long as gratuities are enough to reach the minimum wage and if they fall short, employers are supposed to make up the difference. Initiative 77 requires employers to gradually increase hourly pay until all workers are earning the standard minimum wage by 2026. In D.C., the standard minimum wage will be $15 by 2020 and automatically increase with inflation. [Read More]

Hurricane Florence is not climate change or global warning. It’s just the weather. (USA Today)

Even before Hurricane Florence made landfall somewhere near the border of North and South Carolina, predicted damage from potentially catastrophic flooding from the storm was already being blamed on global warming.

Writing for NBC News, Kristina Dahl contended, “With each new storm, we are forced to question whether this is our new, climate change-fueled reality, and to ask ourselves what we can do to minimize the toll from supercharged storms.”

The theory is that tropical cyclones have slowed down in their speed by about 10 percent over the past 70 years due to a retreat of the jet stream farther north, depriving storms of steering currents and making them stall and keep raining in one location. This is what happened with Hurricane Harvey in Houston last year. [Read More]

Paul Manafort pleads guilty to conspiracy, agrees to ‘cooperation’ as part of the deal (Washington Examiner)

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort on Friday pleaded guilty to two felony criminal charges lodged against him in Washington, and agreed to “cooperation” with federal prosecutors as part of his plea agreement.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson accepted Manafort’s guilty plea in federal court after special counsel Robert Mueller unveiled a superseding indictment against him and a plea agreement in a court document on Friday morning.

When reading from what he called a “cooperation agreement,” Andrew Weismann, a prosecutor on Mueller’s team, said part of the agreement includes “the completion of successful cooperation.” [Read More]
