White House Counsel Don McGahn plans to leave the Trump administration after the upcoming confirmation vote for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump said Wednesday.

Maryland student scores rise modestly, but more than half fail statewide tests (The Washington Post)

Maryland students made modest progress on the state’s standardized tests for grades three through eight but lost ground on high school exams, according to data released Tuesday.

Overall, students continued to show a statewide passing rate below 50 percent during the 2017-18 school year.

Nearly 42 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in English language arts on elementary and middle school exams in Maryland, and 34 percent reached that mark in math. Both numbers improved by about a percentage point compared with those from a year earlier.

“Our schools and our teachers and our administrators are making some important efforts to improve performance all across the state, but we recognize we have more work to do,” said Superintendent of Schools Karen Salmon. [Read More]

Those who use profanity could pay a hefty fine or serve jail time, according to WPDE.

Profane language falls under the city’s disorderly conduct offense. City officials say it is not about the money, but rather making sure people do not get out of hand.

Facebook Employees Start Movement Against Company’s ‘Intolerant’ Liberal Culture (Daily Wire)

On the same day that President Trump unloaded on the political bias problem among major tech communities, including Google, The New York Times published a memo penned by Facebook senior engineer Brian Amerige laying out the company’s “problem with political diversity” and calling for a movement within the company to promote more tolerance of people with political views other than just the leftist views he says are currently enforced by employees. The Senate confirmed seven of President Trump’s district court nominees on Tuesday after Republicans struck a deal with Democrats to shorten the usual vote times.

And the GOP set up another eight votes on district judges for next week, when the Senate returns after a brief Labor Day vacation.

The seven approved this week now give Mr. Trump 35 districts court judges approved so far. He’s also won 26 judges to federal circuit courts appeals, and one Supreme Court justice.
