Alameda schools’ new dress code: Tube tops are in, shaming girls is out (SF Gate)

Tube tops, tight pants, ripped jeans, short skirts and even pajamas are now acceptable attire at Alameda city schools under a new dress code adopted by the school board over the summer break.

Heads covered by hoodies also are allowed as long as faces are visible, as are comfy yoga pants, sweats or soccer shorts — and if underwear is peeking out the top of waistbands, that’s fine too.

Students will now have nearly unfettered freedom to wear almost whatever they want as long as they have a top, bottom, shoes and “clothing that covers specific body parts (genitals, buttocks, and areolae/nipples) with opaque material,” according to the new policy. [Read More]

Ex-officials actually use security clearances to get rich

Former CIA Director John Brennan’s temper tantrum over the revocation of his security clearance has inadvertently pointed a spotlight at one of the Swamp’s favorite get-rich-quick tricks: the national intelligence contractor hustle.

On Aug. 20, President Trump escalated his attack on Brennan. “Everybody wants to keep their Security Clearance, it’s worth great prestige and big dollars, even board seats, and that is why certain people are coming forward to protect Brennan,” Trump said.

The president’s point is valid: Maintaining access to top-secret or classified information is how former intelligence officials like Brennan, James Clapper, James Comey and others command millions of dollars from the private sector. A security clearance reportedly yields a salary of up to 15 percent higher compared to the salaries of individuals without clearances for the same position. [Read More]

NSA Leaker Reality Winner Sentenced to 63 Months in Prison (NY Mag)

Reality Winner, a former NSA contractor accused of leaking classified documents to the Intercept last year, was sentenced Thursday to 63 months in prison. It’s the longest-ever prison sentence for someone convicted of leaking government information to the media.

The 26-year-old was arrested in June of 2017 after leaking a report that detailed an attempt by Russian intelligence to hack into voting machine software in the days before the 2016 election. She later admitted to printing the classified report and smuggling it out of her office in her pantyhose. She then mailed it to the Intercept, which published its story on the report on June 5.

A year after her arrest, Winner pleaded guilty to one count of violating the Espionage Act, telling a Georgia court, “All of my actions I did willfully, meaning I did so of my own free will.” A former Air Force linguist who was honorably discharged in 2016, Winner faced as many as ten years in prison, but prosecutors agreed to a shorter sentence to avoid a trial that “would compound the exceptionally grave harm to national security already caused by the defendant,” they said in court papers filed this week. Rep. Duncan Hunter pleads not guilty, claims indictment ‘politically motivated’ (Fox News)

Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter and his wife pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges they illegally used $250,000 of campaign funds for personal expenses, a development that could cost the GOP his California seat — but Hunter claims the charges are politically motivated.

Bail was set at $15,000 for the congressman and at $10,000 for his wife after they entered their pleas in federal court.

The two are alleged to have used campaign funds from 2009 to 2016 for everything from family vacations to dentist bills, from video games to tequila-soaked nights out.

The indictment includes a lengthy list of astonishing allegations of using campaign funds for personal items and mischaracterizing them. Much of the spending was allegedly done by Margaret Hunter whose tabs include a total bill of $2,569.96 at Barnes & Noble over several years. [Read More]

David Horowitz: Visa, Mastercard Cut Off Payments to My Think Tank Based on SPLC ‘Hate Group’ Label

The David Horowitz Freedom Center has had their donation processing system blocked by Visa and Mastercard allegedly following a campaign by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Visa has since contacted Breitbart News to deny involvement in the blacklisting of the Freedom Center.

The David Horowitz Freedom Center stated in a recent email that its ability to accept donations by credit card has been disabled by both Visa and Mastercard following a campaign by the SPLC to label the Freedom Center as a hate group. This situation comes shortly after Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch was forced off the funding platform Patreonfollowing pressure from Mastercard.

The Freedom Center is the next target of the SPLC, and they are using Mastercard and Visa again in their attempt to shut down conservative voices. In an email sent to supporters, Horowitz outlined how the SPLC had convinced Mastercard and Visa to block the Freedom Center from receiving payments and donations via credit card. In the email, Horowitz requested that supporters send donations via check to a P.O. Box. [Read More]

Trump fires back at Attorney General Jeff Sessions, pleads for investigations into ‘other side’ (USA Today)

President Donald Trump escalated the feud between himself and his own attorney general Friday, firing back at Jeff Sessions with a series of tweets seeming to mock Sessions for not investigating his opponents.

The president pleaded for a number of investigations and quoted a statement offered by Sessions on Thursday, in which the attorney general defended the Justice Department and said it wouldn’t be influenced by politics.

“‘Department of Justice will not be improperly influenced by political considerations.’ Jeff, this is GREAT, what everyone wants, so look into all of the corruption on the ‘other side’ including deleted Emails, Comey lies & leaks, Mueller conflicts, McCabe, Strzok, Page, Ohr,” the president posted early Friday. John McCain discontinuing medical treatment for brain cancer, family says (CBS News)

Sen. John McCain has decided to discontinue medical treatment in his battle with brain cancer, his family said in a statement Friday. The Arizona Republican senator’s family said McCain has “surpassed expectations for survival,” but the “progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict.” McCain, 81, was diagnosed with glioblastoma more than a year ago.

“Last summer, Senator John McCain shared with Americans the news our family already knew: he had been diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma, and the prognosis was serious,” McCain’s family said in a statement. “In the year since, John has surpassed expectations for his survival.”

“But the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict,” the family statement continued. “With his usual strength of will, he has now chosen to discontinue medical treatment. Our family is immensely grateful for the support and kindness of all his caregivers over the last year, and for the continuing outpouring of concern and affection from John’s many friends and associates, and the many thousands of people who are keeping him in their prayers. God bless and thank you all.” [Read More]
