UPDATE 7/13 at 11:50 a.m.:The MDSHA has extended the three lane closures through Sunday. Original plans called for the resurfacing work to end Saturday night.

WASHINGTON (WMAL) – Drivers may want to avoid the outer loop of the Beltway over Connecticut Avenue Friday night through Sunday night. Three lanes of the outer loop bridge over Connecticut Avenue will  be closed from 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday for resurfacing. The Maryland State Highway Administration had originally planned to end the closures Saturday, but spokesperson Charlie Gischlar said Friday they were being extended through possibly Sunday morning.

One lane and the shoulder will get by while work is underway, but Gischlar recommends avoiding the area.

There are a number of alternate route to take: Georgia Avenue to University Boulevard to the north, Route 29 down to East West highway to the south, or the Intercounty Connector. Motorists heading to Northern Virginia can take I-95 through Prince George’s County and then cross the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

This work is part of a project to resurface the outer loop between Seminary Road and the I-270 west spur.
