MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. – Montgomery County council member Nancy Floreen (D-At Large) announced in a statement Monday that she filed an Intent to Declare Candidacy with the Maryland Board of Elections to run for County Executive.
“Let me be clear: I would like to have waited for the final count of ballots in the County Executive race,” Floreen stated. However, with state law setting July 2 as the deadline for submitting an Intent to Declare Candidacy, Floreen filed her intent to run as an Independent in the November general election.
The announcement of her final decision on candidacy will come “once all the primary votes for County Executive have been tabulated and certified,” she said.
The 16-year council member stated that she did not support businessman David Blair or council member Marc Elrich, who are both neck and neck in the latest updated results while vote counting remains underway.
“Whichever candidate prevails in the count will do so with less than 30 percent of the third of Democrats who voted — a fraction of a fraction. That’s less than 40,000 votes in a Count of more than a million.”
