House GOP leaders abruptly postpone high-stakes vote on immigration bill (The Washington Post)

House Republican leaders abruptly postponed a high-stakes vote Thursday on GOP immigration legislation that appeared headed to defeat, despite President Trump’s last-minute lobbying.

Instead, the House was expected to vote Friday on the endangered legislation, with multiple Republican aides saying they did not expect the delay — and a scheduled Thursday afternoon meeting of all Republicans — to change the outcome. Rather, they said, it was meant to assuage members who wanted to better understand what the bill does before voting on it.

Several GOP hard-liners said Thursday there was nothing leaders could do to convince them to vote for the bill. “I’m a big fat ‘no,’ capital letters,” said Rep. Lou Barletta (R-Pa.). “It’s amnesty, chain migration, and there’s no guarantee the wall will be built.” [Read More]

Allison Hrabar: Why should Americans trust that ‘Rank and File’ DOJ employees aren’t biased? (The Washington Times)

We are told that the “rank and file” of the Justice Department is chock full of America-loving patriots who set aside any political beliefs they may have to serve their nation in a fair and judicious manner.

Meet Allison HrabarMs. Hrabar is one of those patriotic, selfless “rank and file” public servants at the Justice Department we keep hearing about. She’s Paralegal Specialist at the DOJ and has been since July 2016. She cares deeply about our nation and the fair and equitable distribution of justice. [Read More]

House kills conservative immigration bill, delays Paul Ryan compromise amid struggle to find GOP votes (Washington Examiner)

The House on Thursday defeated a Republican immigration reform bill in the first of two doomed votes that some had hoped would pave the way to stronger border security and a pathway to citizenship for “Dreamers” caught in legal limbo.

Lawmakers voted against a measure authored by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, that is considered the more conservative of the two options considered on Thursday.

The House rejected that bill 193-231, in a vote that saw 41 Republicans go against their GOP colleagues. Every Democrat voted against it. [Read More]

I’m Sorry And I Want You Back: One Woman’s Open Letter To Her Eyebrows (The Federalist)

Hey. So … I know it’s been a while. Like, a long time. Look, there’s no reason you should even listen to me. I get it. But I’m begging you to just give me a chance.

Let’s just put it out there. I want you back.

I’m so, so sorry. You have no idea.

I was young. I was stupid. I didn’t know how to treat you. [Read More]
