WASHINGTON- Prince George’s County Fire Department and other multiple jurisdictions are responding to a multi-vehicle crash and fire Wednesday on the outer loop thru-lanes of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, causing lane closures, according to PGPD spokesperson Mark Brady.
Maryland State Police tweeted that a tractor trailer heading northbound lost control and struck highway construction vehicles working on the bridge.
Brady said that a stationary boom truck that had an extended bucket under the bridge to do work was involved in the crash causing subsequent fires.
Three workers in the bucket were rescued, but one fatality was reported as well as an injury, though Brady believed it is not serious.
“We know that the operator of the boom truck is OK, but apparently the fatality involves one of the people in the vehicles involved in the crash,” Brady said.
Hazardous material and fuels carried on a tractor trailer involved are being cleaned up, causing the thru-lanes on the outerloop to be closed for an extended period of time, according to Brady.
