WASHINGTON (WMAL) – There’s been a break in a cold case involving the disappearance of a 28-year-old Arlington County woman in 1989. Virginia State Police said DNA testing done by the Virginia Chief Medical Examiner has identified remains found on I-95 in Stafford County in 1991 as those of Marta Rodriguez.
“It wasn’t until recently, based on an ongoing investigation, a separate actual ongoing investigation involving an individual that led us to do a DNA sampling,” said state police spokesperson Corinne Geller.
That investigation was into whether Rodriguez’s husband, Jose Rodriguez-Cruz, was involved in the death of another woman according to Geller.
Rodriguez’s death is being investigated as a murder.
Charges are pending.
