WASHINGTON, D.C. — With the Washington Capitals making it back to the Stanley Cup Finals and Game 3 coming to D.C. on Saturday, the city will likely be seeing a rise in visitors.
Theresa Belpulsi, Vice President of Tourism for Destination D.C., says plenty of people will be coming into the city not just for the game, but for the festivities as well.
“There’s a lot of watch parties that are gonna be going on…a lot of (businesses) are doing signs, they’re doing little activations inside their restaurants, they’re doing themed cocktails, all kinds of things that are happening around the game.”
As for how much money the city stands to bring in due to the finals, Belpulsi says that remains to be seen.
“We won’t know that until after the game happens, as far as with the revenue, but obviously at least the downtown area is going to be super busy, the restaurants are going to be busy, obviously people will be staying overnight if they are coming to the game or just hanging out at the game.”
The finals will be more than a financial boon. It also brings a championship buzz to the area that hasn’t been seen in decades.
“I would probably think a lot of energy will be going on around the city. I think everybody is very excited about the Caps being here, and especially being in town, I think there is going to be a lot of buzz, especially in the downtown area.”
