UPDATE: Amtrak Service Resumes Between D.C. and Philadelphia After Derailment

PHILADELPHIA — (WMAL) If you need to get travel between D.C. and Philadelphia this morning, you might have to brave I-95.

Amtrak has suspended all service between Union Station and Philadelphia, as crews upright a freight train that derailed south of Philadelphia late Wednesday night. The train was carrying a load of stone that spilled onto the tracks.

Amtrak released details in a press release Wednesday morning:

Temporary disruption due to freight rail incident

5 a.m. ET
Amtrak service between Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., is temporarily suspended due to a freight rail incident. Keystone Service (Harrisburg – New York) will operate as scheduled.
Crews are on the scene and working to clear the area as quickly and safely as possible.

Customers with reservations on trains that are being modified will typically be accommodated on trains with similar departure times or another day. Amtrak will gladly waive additional charges for customers looking to change their reservation during the modified schedule by calling our reservation center at 800-USA-RAIL. Anyone planning to travel should check their train status on Amtrak.com or our smartphone apps prior to departing, allow extra time to get to the station and be extremely careful in stations and on platforms.
