  • SHEILA TATE served as Press Secretary to First Lady Nancy Reagan from 1981-1985, handling some of the most newsworthy and controversial issues of the first Reagan term. After leaving the White House staff, she and Jody Powell, former White House Press Secretary to President Jimmy Carter, founded Powell Tate, which quickly became one of Washington’s most successful public relations firms. Sheila served as Press Secretary to George H.W. Bush during his successful campaign for the Presidency in 1988, and for his transition. In 1996, she was Communications Director for the 1996 Republican National Convention in San Diego. Sheila remained in close touch with Nancy Reagan after the Reagans returned to California, speaking with her often until Mrs. Reagan’s passing in 2016.
