Trump skipping White House Correspondents’ Dinner (Washington Examiner)
President Trump is skipping the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the end of the month.
Trump also sat out of the dinner last year amid tensions with the press.

A bill that allows Maryland residents to automatically register to vote when they interact with state agencies has become law without Gov. Larry Hogan’s signature.
Maryland joins the District and 11 other states, including Oregon and California, which allow people to register while renewing a driver’s license, signing up for health coverage with the state Health Benefit Exchange or receiving help from a social service agency.
“It’s a great step forward and will have tremendous impact for generations to come,” said Sen. William Smith (D-Montgomery), the bill sponsor. “This will allow thousands of more Marylanders to participate in the democratic process.” [Read More]
Schools must do better to prepare students for a freelance future (Fox News)
One-third of working Americans now identify as freelancers. This trend is expected to continue. It’s estimated that freelancers will make up the majority of the workforce in the next decade.
That doesn’t mean that the next generation will be disproportionately composed of Uber drivers. Rather, people are increasingly asserting more control over how and when they work.

On Tuesday, while speaking during a city council meeting on curtailing gun violence, an African-American gun owner in North Carolina blasted government officials who want to restrict gun rights of law-abiding citizens.
The city council meeting was held to determine whether the community should cancel an upcoming gun show which is “held twice yearly at the Coliseum, a city-owned building,” WFMY News reported.
“When are you all gonna start standing up for the majority? … I’m the majority! I’m a law-abiding citizen who’s never shot anybody,” Mark Robinson said. “It seems every time we have one of these shootings, nobody wants to put the blame where it goes, which is at the shooter’s feet. Michelle Obama: My husband was ‘the good parent’ compared to Trump (The Hill)
Former first lady Michelle Obama likened her husband’s presidency to having “the good parent” at home at a women’s leadership conference on Thursday.
At the Simmons Leadership Conference in Boston, Obama appeared to take shots at President Trump’s administration in remarks first reported by local TV station WBZ.
The Obama administration “was like having the ‘good parent’ at home,” the former first lady said. “The responsible parent, the one who told you to eat your carrots and go to bed on time.” [Read More]
