Thousands Of VA Medical Professionals Didn’t Pass Background Checks (Daily Caller)

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) didn’t conduct required background checks on 6,200 medical employees, according to a government watchdog.

Most VA medical professionals must receive low-level background checks, but the IG found that there were no investigations for about six percent of cases, according to Monday’s VA inspector general (IG) report. In some cases, employees had worked at the VA for several years without having undergone an investigation.

Another 10,400 employees with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), an agency within the VA, didn’t receive background checks within the required 90 days between 2012 and 2016, according to the report. [Read More]

PGCPS not monitoring data of students on track to graduate this school year (Fox 5 DC)

According to an open records request, Prince George’s County Public Schools has stopped monitoring its graduation rate numbers, a marked deviation from past years where there was intense focus on boosting the numbers.

FOX 5 requested “any documents that detail how many students are on track to graduate from each high school,” but was told those documents don’t exist and schools are “choosing how to monitor their progress.”

It comes after record-high graduation numbers in the county were called into question following a state audit that found students graduated without meeting requirements. [Read More]

Roseanne revival premieres to massive ratings (EW)

The revival of Roseanne premiered to massive ratings Tuesday night.

The return delivered an incredible 18.2 million viewers along with an equally impressive 5.1 rating among adults 18-49.

According to ABC, this is the highest-rated comedy telecast on any network in nearly four years (since a premiere episode of CBS’ The Big Bang Theory from 2014).

So, yes, even bigger than NBC’s mega-hit This Is Us during any of its regularly scheduled episodes, where the weepy dramedy usually tops out around a 3.0 adult demo rating (the special This Is Us post-Super Bowl episode was bigger, but that’s to be expected). [Read More]

Walmart to remove ‘Cosmopolitan’ from checkout lines, says it’s a ‘business decision’ (USA Today)

Walmart is saying goodbye to Cosmopolitan.

The retail giant will remove the women’s fashion magazine from checkout lines at 5,000 stores across the country.

In a statement shared with USA TODAY, Walmart spokesperson Meggan Kring said: “As with all products in our store, we continue to evaluate our assortment and make changes. Walmart will continue to offer Cosmopolitan to customers that wish to purchase the magazine, but it will no longer be located in the checkout aisles. While this was primarily a business decision, the concerns raised were heard.” [Read More]

CNN to host town hall with Comey next month (The Hill)

Former FBI Director James Comey will sit down for a CNN town hall on April 25, the network announced on Wednesday

“The one-hour primetime Town Hall, moderated by CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, will be live from Phi Beta Kappa Memorial Hall at Comey’s alma mater, William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and will be co-hosted by the Student Assembly at William & Mary,” reads the release from CNN’s public relations.

“Following the release of Comey’s book, A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies & Leadership, Cooper will moderate a conversation between Comey and a live audience as they discuss his FBI career, his public firing and the high profile cases he oversaw including the bureau’s handling of the Hillary Clinton e-mail investigation and potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia,” it continues.
