Austin serial bombing suspect killed in dramatic confrontation; ID’d as 24-year-old man (Fox News)

The serial bomber who terrorized Austin, Texas for three harrowing weeks was identified Wednesday morning — just hours after he blew himself to bits with his own device as cops closed in.

Mark Anthony Conditt, 24, was named as the bomber, a law enforcement official told the Associated Press. A picture of Conditt in 2013 from his mother’s Facebook page was authenticated by The Austin-American Statesman.

Conditt was killed near the motel he was traced to by authorities using surveillance footage from a Federal Express drop-off store and cell phone triangulation technology, according to The Austin American-Statesman.

The man, whose name was not released, died after fleeing the motel in a car, with police hot on his tail. He drove into a ditch, sparking the fatal confrontation. [Read More]

Biden says he would have ‘beat the hell out’ of Trump in high school for disrespecting women (ABC News)

Former Vice President Joe Biden took fresh jabs at President Donald Trump on Tuesday while speaking at an anti-sexual assault rally, telling students at the University of Miami that he probably would have “beat the hell out” of Trump if they’d attended school together.

“A guy who ended up becoming our national leader said, ‘I can grab a woman anywhere and she likes it,'” Biden said. “They asked me if I’d like to debate this gentleman, and I said ‘no.’ I said, ‘If we were in high school, I’d take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him.'” [Read More]

University of Wisconsin campus proposes elimination of majors such as English, history (The Hill)

The University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point is reportedly discussing a plan to eliminate 13 majors including English, philosophy, history and Spanish.The campus — one of 11 campuses in the University of Wisconsin system — would instead focus on programs that have “clear career pathways,” The Washington Post reported.

Under the proposal, the school would expand areas such as marketing, management, graphic design and computer information systems — areas that “have demonstrated value and demand in the region,” according to the school.

The school’s administration is framing the idea as a way to increase its declining enrollment and to deal with a multimillion-dollar deficit, according to the Post. [Read More]

Former Miss America Erika Harold is Illinois GOP attorney general pick (WPSD)

Attorney and former Miss America Erika Harold has won the Republican primary for Illinois attorney general.

Harold beat out litigation attorney Gary Grasso Tuesday for the nomination. The Urbana lawyer in November will face the winner of the eight-candidate Democratic field.

Harold has GOP establishment backing and has received campaign contributions from Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner. Despite those connections, she has positioned herself as a “reform-minded, political outsider” who wants to offer a bipartisan approach to criminal justice reform and other issues. [Read More]

“I think imitation is the most sincere form of flattery in a way,” said the 24-year-old. “But in all seriousness, his book is contributing to charities that I think we can all get behind.
