• Rubio Gets Booed At CNN Town Hall (Daily Caller) — Republican Florida Sen. Marco Rubio was booed during Wednesday’s CNN town hall on the Parkland shooting when he said he wouldn’t support an assault weapons ban. A father who lost his daughter in the school shooting told Rubio that his comments thus far about the shooting were “pathetically weak,” and asked what action he would take to prevent future shootings. Rubio clarified the comments he made earlier in the week, explaining, “the problems we face here today cannot be solved by gun laws alone,” and pointed to mental health issues and raising the minimum age to buy a rifle. The conversation then switched to the assault weapons bans, which Rubio did his best to argue against while facing a crowd of boos. “If you’ll indulge me for a minute to explain to you the problem,” Rubio explained. “First you have to define what it is. If you look at the law and its definition, it basically bans 200 models of guns, 220 specific models of guns. Okay? But it allows legal 2,000 other types of gun that are identical. Identical.” “My belief remains that rather than continue to try to chase every loophole that’s created, that’s why it failed in ’94, that’s why they’re getting around it in California, it’s how they get around it in New York, is we should make sure that dangerous criminals, people who are deranged cannot buy any gun of any kind,” he continued.

• Florida shooting survivor: CNN gave me ‘scripted’ question for town hall, quashed question on armed guards (Fox News) — A survivor of the Florida high school massacre said in an interview that CNN rejected his proposal to discuss armed guards in schools and instead handed him a “scripted” question to ask during Wednesday night’s town hall on gun rights. Colton Haab, 17, a junior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and an ROTC member, reportedly used Kevlar vests to shield students during the massacre. He said he decided not to attend the town hall after CNN presented him with the prepared question. “CNN had originally asked me to write a speech and questions and it ended up being all scripted,” Haab told Miami’s WPLG-TV. “I don’t think that it’s going get anything accomplished. It’s not gonna ask the true questions that all the parents and teachers and students have.

6am – E         Police Searching for Vandals Who Destroyed Nearly a Dozen DC Speed Cameras (Daily Caller) — Police are searching for vandals who destroyed nearly a dozen speed cameras in Washington, D.C., according to the Metropolitan Police Department. Authorities discovered 11 speed cameras throughout the nation’s capital were damaged between 2:30 and 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. Officers reported some of the cameras wiring had been ripped out from where they were mounted. At one location a police officer saw two cameras “that had been pushed over and the camera had been ripped off the wiring and from where it was mounted,” according to The Washington Post. The criminal act was declared as “vandalism” in the statement released by the Metropolitan Police Department. Authorities also mentioned at least one suspect was under investigation. “Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department seek the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a suspect in reference to 11 Destruction of Property offenses of government operated traffic cameras in the District of Columbia,” the Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement.

6am – F         Andrew Pollack Father of Parkland Shooting Victim Makes Emotional Remarks at WH Listening Session: ‘I’m Pissed’ (Breitbart) — Wednesday at a White House listening session on school shootings, Andrew Pollack, who lost his daughter, Meadow at the Parkland, FL school shooting last week, called for cooperation to fix the schools. Pollack said, “I’m here because my daughter has no voice. She was murdered last week and she was taken from us. Shot nine times on the third floor. We as a country failed our children. This shouldn’t happen. We go to the airport, I can’t get on a plane with a bottle of water, but we leave some animal to walk into a school and shoot our children. It is just not right.” He continued, “We need to come together as a country, not different parties, and figure out how we protect the schools. It’s simple. It’s not difficult. We protect airports, we protect concerts, stadiums, embassies, the Department of Education that I walked in today that has a security guard in the elevator. How do you think that makes me feel?”

• Colorado state rep, Columbine survivor, pushes to end gun-free zones in schools (Fox News) — Colorado House Minority Leader Patrick Neville, who was a Columbine High School sophomore at the time of the 1999 mass shooting, is pushing legislation that he says would protect students — by getting rid of gun restrictions in schools. He has introduced the bill annually since he was elected in 2014, The Washington Times reported. Previous attempts have been turned down. Neville, a Republican, told The Times the current law “creates a so-called gun free zone in every K-12 public school.” Under Colorado law, concealed-carry permit holders may bring firearms onto school property, according to The Times, but must keep them locked inside their vehicles. “Time and time again we point to the one common theme with mass shootings, they occur in gun-free zones,” Neville told The Times. He added law-abiding citizens should be able “to defend themselves and most importantly our children from the worst-case scenarios.
