MITCHELLVILLE, MD — (WMAL) A man accused of breaking into the basement of a home on Chantilly Lane early Wednesday likely wasn’t expecting to be greeted by a homeowner with a gun.

Prince George’s County police say the suspect broke into the home through the basement, and then kicked through a door that led to the main floor of the home, where the homeowner was waiting. He shot the suspect twice. The intruder managed to get away, but about an hour later, 911 operators received a call from the neighborhood to assist someone who had been shot. It was the suspect. He’s now hospitalized in critical condition.
