MITCHELLVILLE, MD — (WMAL) A man accused of breaking into the basement of a home on Chantilly Lane early Wednesday likely wasn’t expecting to be greeted by a homeowner with a gun.
Prince George’s County police say the suspect broke into the home through the basement, and then kicked through a door that led to the main floor of the home, where the homeowner was waiting. He shot the suspect twice. The intruder managed to get away, but about an hour later, 911 operators received a call from the neighborhood to assist someone who had been shot. It was the suspect. He’s now hospitalized in critical condition.
Prelim: Officers responded around 12:30am for a reported shooting. Homeowner inside of residence heard noises in basement. Suspect broke into basement and began kicking door leading from the basement to the main floor of home. Suspect successfully broke through door.

More Prelim: Homeowner shot suspect 2 times with handgun, suspect fled from the home. Officers canvassing neighborhood received another 911 call around 1:45am for a man shot needing help in the 3800 blk of Clairton Drive. Suspect located, taken to hospital in critical condition.
