STERLING, VA — (WMAL) If there’s a modicum of good news, it’s that the snow heading our way should largely miss the Tuesday evening commute.
But Wednesday morning is a different story.
“We’re basically looking for light snow accumulation – about an inch – but with the ground so cold and temperatures in the mid 20’s, anything will probably stick very easily to the roads,” National Weather Service Meteorologist Luis Rosa told WMAL Tuesday morning.
“There’s not really a lot of moisture in the atmosphere. We’re looking at a weak system,” said Rosas. “The window of opportunity for snow will be late tonight into the first half of Wednesday.”
The timing of the storm will likely bring school delays and perhaps some closings on Wednesday, and you can find out the latest when they begin coming in at the WMAL Storm Center.

…POTENTIAL WINTER COMMUTING HAZARD FOR THE BALTIMORE /
WASHINGTON METRO AREAS WEDNESDAY MORNING…
There is a potential for hazardous commuting conditions for the
Wednesday morning commute. A period of snow is EXPECTED Wednesday
morning across the Baltimore and Washington metro areas with
around an inch accumulation on area roads.
If this threat does materialize during the Wednesday morning
rush-hour, many roads could quickly turn icy. This could lead to
dangerous traveling conditions, multiple accidents, and extensive
delays.
If commuting Wednesday morning, be aware of the POSSIBILITY of
significant travel disruptions. Plan ahead by allowing for extra
travel time, and consider using public transportation and telework
options.
Stay tuned for updates on this potential winter weather episode.
