WASHINGTON — The Monday morning Metro commute was – to be mild – interrupted for many workers Monday morning after a Red Line train derailed near the Farragut North station. There were no reports of injuries aboard the train.
Red Line Incident: Approx 6:40 a.m., a Red Line train carrying 60 passengers derailed outside Farragut North Station. No injuries reported. Emergency personnel on scene. Shuttle buses are running in place of trains, both directions, btwn Dupont Circle & Judiciary Square. #wmata

No injuries were reported, and DC Fire has since cleared the scene. A rescue train was used to deliver the stranded passengers safely to Metro Center.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the derailment. Disruptions were reduced significantly by the fact that Monday is a national holiday celebrating the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but the cleanup and investigation are expected to hamper Metro service for much of the day regardless.
