5am – A/B/C   TRUMP vs MEDIA

  • Trump rails against news media after reporting corrections.  Trump: The “Fake News Media” is a “stain on America”  WASHINGTON (AP) – President Donald Trump is again railing against the news media, calling them a “stain on America.” In a tweet Sunday, Trump blasts the lack of attention over what he describes as “false and defamatory stories” by the “Fake News Media.” “They are out of control – correct reporting means nothing to them. Major lies written, then forced to be withdrawn after they are exposed…a stain on America!” Trump writes. Over the past two weeks, ABC News and CNN have had to issue corrections and clarifications on stories that initially had been damaging to the president but didn’t live up to scrutiny. And on Saturday, Trump demanded and received an apology from a Washington Post reporter over a photo of Trump’s Florida rally on Friday that made it look sparsely attended. “Very little discussion of all the purposely false and defamatory stories put out this week by the Fake News Media,” Trump tweeted. “They are out of control — correct reporting means nothing to them. Major lies written, then forced to be withdrawn after they are exposed … a stain on America!”
  • Trump: CNN should apologize for “last two years” of coverage. President Trump said Friday that CNN should make amends to him for its coverage of his campaign and administration since 2015 after the news outlet issued a correction to an article earlier in the day. “CNN apologized just a little while ago. They apologized. Oh thank you, CNN, thank you so much,” Trump told attendees at a rally in Pensacola, Fla., late Friday.  “You should have been apologizing for the last two years,” Trump added and the audience cheered.
  • APOLOGY: President Donald Trump demanded and received an apology from a Washington Post reporter over a photo of Trump’s Florida rally. Trump won’t accept WaPo reporter’s apology: “he should be fired.” President Trump is declining to accept Washington Post reporter Dave Weigel’s apology, and is now calling for his firing: Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump: .@daveweigel of the Washington Post just admitted that his picture was a FAKE (fraud?) showing an almost empty arena last night for my speech in Pensacola when, in fact, he knew the arena was packed (as shown also on T.V.). FAKE NEWS, he should be fired. 6:14 PM – Dec 9, 2017  Background: Weigel tweeted, then deleted, a photo on Saturday from Trump’s Friday rally in Florida. Weigel’s tweet mocked Trump for claiming the crowd was “to the rafters.” When the president called on Weigel to apologize and added visual evidence of the crowd size, Weigel promptly apologized for his error.
  • 7 Times CNN Botched The News In 2017: (Daily Caller) — CNN has had a rough 2017 and it’s not even over yet. The news network has repeatedly made key errors when breaking big stories, only to get embarrassed when the facts come to light. Here are seven times CNN botched the news in 2017.
    • Comey Testimony: CNN ran a story on June 6 that claimed former FBI Director James Comey would use his testimony the next day to refute President Donald Trump’s claim that Comey had assured him three separate times that he was not under FBI investigation. That story was debunked the same day when Comey’s prepared remarks were released to the public, showing that Comey would actually confirm, rather than refute, Trump’s assertion. The botched story had four bylines, including those of three veteran journalists: anchor Jake Tapper, chief political analyst Gloria Borger and executive editor Eric Lichtblau, who had recently joined CNN from The New York Times. CNN was forced to rewrite the piece with a correction noting the error.
    • CNN Smears Scaramucci: Later that month, CNN.com published, deleted, and then retracted and apologized for an article that claimed Trump adviser Anthony Scaramucci was the subject of a Senate investigation for his ties to Russian bankers. After an intense public backlash, three key members of CNN’s investigative team resigned over their role in the retracted story. The network pulled its investigative team off the Russia story shortly afterwards.
    • CNN Spreads Fake News…About Fake News!  CNN was one of several establishment media outlets to spread fake news about a new study on Russian influence efforts in the United States. CNN cited the study, from the Oxford Internet Institute, to show that fake news targeted swing states during election week. But the study didn’t show that, as The Daily Caller first reported. The study focused on “junk news,” not “fake news,” and then deliberately included conservative outlets like the Washington Examiner and Breitbart News in their definition of “fake news.” CNN and other outlets included none of those facts, portraying a misleading picture to the public.
    • Republican Donor Did (Not) Fund The Dossier: CNN spread fake news to its viewers during a segment on the infamous anti-Trump dossier in October. While CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer discussed the dossier, the chyron on his show indicated that a Republican donor had initially funded the dossier. That is incorrect. The opposition research firm behind the dossier, Fusion GPS, had contracted with Republican donor Paul Singer for research on candidates including Trump, but that was unrelated to the controversial dossier.
    • Fake (Fish) News: During President Trump’s visit to Japan last month, CNN spread two false narratives about the president. The first false narrative was that Trump committed a faux pas while feeding Japanese koi fish by impatiently pouring out his entire box of fish food. CNN zoomed in close on Trump while he and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe were feeding the fish, appearing to show the president making the embarrassing mistake. The video went viral and Trump was mocked on social media.
    • Trump Is (Not) Ignorant Of Japanese Cars: In the second false narrative that CNN spread during Trump’s Japan visit, the network took the president’s words out of context to make him appear ignorant of the fact that Japan makes cars in the United States. “Trump asks Japan to build cars in the U.S. It already does,” CNN Money’s Daniel Shane wrote. As TheDC’s Alex Pfeiffer noted at the time, Trump’s full remarks — which Shane left out — clearly showed that Trump was aware of the fact that Japan makes cars in the U.S. His remark, which CNN took seriously, appeared to be a joke.
    • CNN Botches Another ‘Bombshell’: CNN botched another “bombshell” on Friday when it reported that Donald Trump Jr. and the Trump campaign had received advanced access to stolen emails published by WikiLeaks. The network hyped the story as a bombshell for most of the day before TheDC’s Chuck Ross debunked it, revealing several serious errors with the story.

5am – D         Obama: Protect democracy or risk taking path of Nazi Germany.

CHICAGO (AP) — Former President Barack Obama says Americans must be vigilant in their defense of democracy or risk following the path of Nazi Germany in the 1930s. At a speech earlier this week, the former president told the Economic Club of Chicago that “things can fall apart fairly quickly” if Americans don’t “tend to this garden of democracy.” During the speech Tuesday, Obama pointed to Hitler’s rise to power in Germany as he implored the audience to “pay attention … and vote.” Obama also defended the media. He said the press “often drove me nuts” but that he understood that a free press was vital to democracy.

5am – E         Mueller Russia Probe / Flynn:

  • Judge recuses himself from Michael Flynn’s case (Washington Examiner) — The judge overseeing former national security adviser Michael Flynn has recused himself from the case. The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia said that Judge Rudolph Contreras recused himself, but did not disclose why he had done so, CBS News reported.  The case has been reassigned to Judge Emmet Sullivan, who was appointed by former President Bill Clinton. Flynn’s sentencing will occur in February. Flynn pleaded guilty in federal court last week for lying to the FBI in January about his contacts with former Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Flynn was charged on one count of “willfully and knowingly” making “false, fictitious and fraudulent statements” to the FBI about communications exchanged with Kislyak shortly after Trump took office. Flynn said he is cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
  • Mueller’s ‘Pit Bull’ Attended Clinton’s Election Night Party. (Daily Caller) – An attorney for special counsel Robert Mueller attended Hillary Clinton’s election night party in New York City, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday. Andrew Weissmann’s attendance at the party is one of many signs pointing to a troubling bias from the attorney. Weissmann has been described by The New York Times as Mueller’s “lieutenant” and “pit bull.” Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch obtained an email Tuesday that reveled Weissmann praised former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates’ defiance of Trump.
  • Bias allegations in Robert Mueller’s probe offer Trump allies a new counterargument (Washington Examiner) — A series of bias allegations and media errors related to the Russia probe this week offered President Trump’s allies the opportunity to push back on a controversy that has begun to ensnare members of the president’s inner circle. White House officials received a gift from special counsel Robert Mueller’s team this week in the form of revelations about questionable behavior exhibited by an investigator and an attorney attached to the Russia probe. A former member of Mueller’s outfit, investigator Peter Strzok, received a demotion this summer after he allegedly sent anti-Trump, pro-Hillary Clinton text messages to his mistress, who was also an FBI employee. Strzok played a prominent role in the bureau’s Clinton email investigation before he joined Mueller’s team, multiple outlets reported this week. A prosecutor presently on Mueller’s legal team sent an email to former acting Attorney General Sally Yates in late January praising her decision to defy Trump’s travel ban executive order, according to documents released to conservative group Judicial Watch this week. Andrew Weissmann, the attorney, also attended Clinton’s election-night party in New York last year, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
  • Adam Schiff: You have to ignore “rational sense” to not sense collusion between Trump and Russia. One would have to be avoiding rational thought to look at the events surrounding Russia’s actions during the 2016 campaign and avoid concluding the Kremlin colluded with the Trump campaign, said Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., Sunday. Schiff said on CNN’s “State of the Union” the Russian influence campaign, various meetings between Trump campaign officials and Russian officials, and the WikiLeaks dumps of stolen emails from Hillary Clinton’s campaign only lead to one conclusion.
  • Democrats stall K.T. McFarland’s nomination to become Singapore ambassador  Two Democratic senators on Friday delayed K.T. McFarland’s nomination to become U.S. ambassador to Singapore, requesting more information on her knowledge of contacts between President Trump’s campaign and Russian officials. In a letter addressed to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., Sens. Ben Cardin of Maryland and Cory Booker of New Jersey announced they were placing a hold on McFarland’s nomination until she “publicly clarifies” possible conflicts in her statements about contacts between former national security adviser Michael Flynn and Russia’s former ambassador.
  • Graham calls for special counsel to investigate “all things 2016” — including Hillary
  • Lindsey Graham‏ @LindseyGrahamSC: Dec 8: It’s long past time for a Special Counsel to investigate Clinton email scandal, Uranium One, role of Fusion GPS, and FBI and DOJ bias during 2016 campaign.
  • Lindsey Graham @LindseyGrahamSC I will be challenging Rs and Ds on Senate Judiciary Committee to support a Special Counsel to investigate ALL THINGS 2016 — not just Trump and Russia.
  • Christopher Wray’s FBI Stonewall (WSJ) — The new director hides behind a phony excuse for refusing to answer Congress’s questions. Christopher Wray was supposed to bring a new candor and credibility to the FBI after the James Comey debacle, but the country is still waiting. The director’s testimony Thursday to the House Judiciary Committee suggests he has joined the Justice Department effort to stop the public from learning about the bureau’s role in the 2016 election. Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte invited Mr. Wray to answer the multiplying questions about the bureau’s 2016 political interference. This includes the role that the Steele dossier—opposition research financed by the Clinton campaign—played in the FBI’s decision to investigate the Trump presidential campaign. The committee also wants answers about reports that special counsel Robert Mueller demoted Peter Strzok, a lead FBI investigator in both the Trump and Hillary Clinton email investigations, after Mr. Strzok exchanged anti-Trump texts with his mistress, who also works at the FBI. Mr. Wray spent five hours stonewalling. The director ducked every question about the FBI’s behavior by noting that the Justice Department Inspector General is investigating last year’s events. Is Mr. Wray concerned that Mr. Strzok edited the FBI’s judgment of Mrs. Clinton’s handling of her emails to “extremely careless” from “grossly negligent” in a previous draft? The grossly negligent phrase might have put Mrs. Clinton in legal jeopardy, but Mr. Wray said he couldn’t answer because that is subject to the “outside, independent investigation.” Is Mr. Wray taking steps to ensure his top ranks are free of political “taint”? He couldn’t say because of the “outside, independent” investigation.
  • COMING UP: JOE DIGENOVA at 7:05 AM!

6am – A/B     ROY MOORE NEWS:

  • Alabama Hears Final Pitch Ahead of Tuesday Vote for Senate Seat. MONTGOMERY, Ala.—A heated race for an Alabama U.S. Senate seat entered its final days with Democrat Doug Jones trying to mobilize voters, especially African-Americans, and front-runner Republican Roy Moore facing a fresh call from the state’s senior senator for GOP voters to avoid him on Tuesday.
  • Trump stumped for Roy Moore at a Pensacola rally and recorded robocalls urging support for Moore
  • Corey Stewart to Support Judge Roy Moore Campaign in Alabama for GOTV. Woodbridge, VA –  Republican Senatorial candidate Corey Stewart will join the Judge Roy Moore campaign in Montgomery, Alabama, to assist with “Get Out the Vote” efforts in the final two days of the Alabama special election to fill the seat vacated by former Sen. Jeff Sessions.
  • Republican Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby on Roy Moore’s accusers: “I think the women are believable, I have no reason not to believe them.” My state of Alabama ‘deserves better’ than Moore
  • Win or lose, Roy Moore could spell trouble for Trump and Republicans (Washington Examiner/Jim Antle) — Republicans are bracing themselves for Tuesday’s special election for Senate in Alabama, where President Trump has gambled heavily on a victory for Republican Roy Moore in a race where either outcome has major pitfalls for his party. “When it comes to 2018,” one Republican strategist said, “this could really be a lose-lose situation.” If Moore loses, it will tell Democrats no area is too red to contest in next year’s midterm elections and boost their candidate recruitment.

6am – C         Mike Pence calls Palestinian snub after Jerusalem decision “unfortunate” (Washington Examiner) — Vice President Pence called the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ decision to snub a meeting with him “unfortunate,” and that he still plans to visit the region. The statement from Pence’s press secretary on Sunday comes ahead of a planned trip to Israel and Egypt later this month. It also comes a few days after President Trump decided to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which angered Palestinians. Abbas said Saturday he would cancel a planned Dec. 19 meeting with Pence in retaliation for the embassy move. Palestinians claim East Jerusalem as their capital and the move sparked major protests and riots in response to the decision. “It’s unfortunate that the Palestinian Authority is walking away again from an opportunity to discuss the future of the region, but the administration remains undeterred in its efforts to help achieve peace between Israelis and Palestinians and our peace team remains hard at work putting together a plan,” Press Secretary Alyssa Farah said in a statement.

6am – D         ARIZONA COP SHOOTS UNARMED MAN IN HORRIFIC VIDEO, LATER FOUND NOT GUILTY:

  • Bodycam video released after jury acquits ex-cop of murder. (CNN) New body camera footage captures the tense moments before an Arizona police officer shot an unarmed man dead last year, as the man begged officers not to fire. Police in Mesa, Arizona released the footage last week, after a jury acquitted former Mesa officer Philip “Mitch” Brailsford of second-degree murder and reckless manslaughter charges related to the January 2016 shooting of Daniel Shaver, of Texas.
  • Ex-Mesa Officer Philip Brailsford found not guilty of murder in shooting of unarmed man. (Arizona Republic) — A Maricopa County jury on Thursday found former Mesa police Officer Philip “Mitch” Brailsford not guilty of second-degree murder charges in the 2016 shooting of an unarmed Texas man who was on his knees begging for his life. Jurors deliberated for less than six hours over two days, finishing Thursday afternoon. The eight-member jury also found Brailsford not guilty of the lesser charge of reckless manslaughter. The packed courtroom in Maricopa County Superior Court was quiet after one of Judge George Foster’s clerks read the verdict. Brailsford was one of two officers in Arizona since 2005 who had been charged with murder in connection with an on-duty shooting. The case ends during a time when on-duty police shootings have received heightened scrutiny. Some shootings, particularly those recorded on video, have prompted protests throughout the U.S. Brailsford’s acquittal came after impassioned closing arguments that offered contrasting narratives of why Brailsford shot and killed 26-year-old Daniel Shaver in a hotel hallway two years ago. Shaver was kneeling, crying and begging not to be shot after he was confronted by six Mesa police officers in a La Quinta Inn & Suites hallway Jan. 18, 2016. Brailsford, who was fired two months after the shooting, testified that he fired his AR-15 rifle five times because it appeared Shaver was reaching for a gun. “If this situation happened exactly as it did that time, I would have done the same thing,” Brailsford said in his testimony. Laney Sweet, Shaver’s widow, said she had no comment to make about the verdict as, crying, she exited an elevator with family. Mark Geragos, Sweet’s lawyer, called the shooting an “execution.” “The justice system miserably failed Daniel (Shaver) and his family,” Geragos said. Brailsford’s lawyer, Michael Piccarreta, said he had expected  the jury would come back with a positive outcome for his client.
  • Jury wisely acquits Arizona cop in killing of unarmed man. (Washington Examiner / Tom Rogan) — I support the decision by an Arizona jury to acquit former police officer, Philip Brailsford, on charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter. I believe the totality of the facts explains why Brailsford was acquitted. First off, we must consider the context that the original police call involved an individual pointing a firearm outside of his room window. Identified as the room Brailsford was occupying, it is clear to understand why the responding police officers were concerned that Shaver was armed and dangerous. Second, in the camera footage of the incident, we see Shaver, albeit in a visibly and audibly emotional state, repeatedly struggling to comply with the police orders. By training and experience, police officers reasonably regard this behavior as indicative of a possible concealed threat. But then come the immediate circumstances that lead to Shaver’s death. As Shaver crawls towards the officers as ordered, he is compliant. As this screenshot from police body camera footage of the incident shows, Shaver’s hands are visible in front of him. At this point he clearly poses no threat and had Brailsford shot him, the probability of a murder conviction would have been significant and of a manslaughter conviction exceptionally high. Yet I believe the two screenshots below offer the critical evidence that led to Brailsford being acquitted. The first screenshot shows Brailsford one second before he fires the shot. Note that the officer has his rifle pointing away from Shaver down the corridor (presumably covering for other possible threats), in the video it is also clear that Brailsford has his finger off his trigger. But one second later, apparently seeking to adjust his shorts, Shaver reaches behind his back to his waistband. Perceiving a threat, Brailsford reacquires Shaver in his rifle sights, puts his finger to the trigger and fires five times.
  • Buck Sexton @BuckSexton: worst police brutality ive seen since the horrific execution of Walter Scott in South Carolina. That cop got 20 years.  How a jury in AZ got this one so wrong is beyond me.

6am – E         Pro-Trump students in MAGA hats booted from ‘safe space’ campus coffee shop. (Fox News) — A viral video shows a group of conservative Fordham University students in New York City being kicked out of a campus coffeehouse after being told their pro-Trump “Make America Great Again” hats violated the shop’s “safe space” policy. “Fox & Friends” aired on Sunday a portion of the video, which shows the group being told, “I don’t want people like you supporting this club.” The video was shot Thursday at Fordham’s student-run Rodrigue’s Coffee House. “No one here wants people like you supporting our club,” a Rod’s student volunteer employee is heard saying. “I’m giving you 5 minutes.” She goes on to say, “You are threatening the integrity of our club. This is a community standard. You are wearing hats that completely violate safe space policy. You have to take if off or you have to go.” Fordham junior Aaron Spring, 20, says he just wanted a cup of coffee. “I didn’t make any noise,” he said, according to “Fox & Friends.” “I wasn’t rude. I didn’t curse at anybody. I was just sitting enjoying a cup of coffee with friends.” The video was first shown by Campus Reform. It has been viewed more than 67,000 times as of Sunday. The website reported that Spring and his pals were given a handout titled “Rodrigue’s Coffee Shop has a safer space policy,” prohibiting racism, sexism and homophobia and urging patrons to be mindful of the ways in which their words and actions can impact others. A Fordham spokesman told Fox News in a statement Sunday that there is no such policy on campus.

6am – F         California Gov. Jerry Brown: Trump doesn’t believe in climate change because he doesn’t fear “the wrath of God” (Washington Examiner) — California Gov. Jerry Brown said Sunday President Trump’s apparent lack of fear “of the wrath of God” explains his denial of climate change. “I don’t think — President Trump has a fear of the Lord, the fear of the wrath of God, which leads one to more humility,” Brown told CBS’ “60 Minutes.” “And, this is such a reckless disregard for the truth and for the existential consequences that can be unleashed,” he continued, referring to climate scientists who believe global warming is due to the burning of fossil fuels. Brown, who is currently battling some of the worst wildfires in his state’s history, said nature is not “a political game.” The governor, however, called on Trump to re-evaluate his decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate accord, which he announced in June. “The truth of the case is that there’s too much carbon being emitted, that heat-trapping gasses are building up, the planet is warming and all hell is breaking loose,” he said. “So I’d say to Mr. Trump, take a deeper look. Now is not the time to undo what every country in the world is committed to.”

7am – A/B/C             INTERVIEW – JOE DIGENOVA – legal analyst and former US Attorney to the District of Columbia — discussed the latest in the Mueller probe and the horrific Arizona cop shooting.

7am – D         TRUMP AND SEXUAL HARASSMENT CLAIMS:

  • Senators call for Trump to resign over sexual misconduct allegations. Sanders renews call for Trump to step down after Franken resignation. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) suggested Sunday that Trump should follow in Sen. Al Franken’s (D-Minn.) footsteps and resign over the allegations of sexual misconduct that have been leveled against him. “Here you have a president who has been accused by many women of assault, who says on a tape that he assaulted women,” Sanders said on “Meet the Press.” “He might want to think about doing the same.” Sanders had also suggested the Trump step down from office on Thursday. Sanders’ call on Sunday echoed recent statements by Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), who have also urged Trump to resign over the reports. Booker made the suggestion in an interview with Vice News on Saturday. “I just watched Sen. Al Franken do the honorable thing and resign from his office. My question is, why isn’t Donald Trump doing the same thing — who has more serious allegations against him, with more women who have come forward,” Booker said.
  • Tim Scott denies need for investigation into Trump harassment allegations. Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., refused to support an investigation into numerous allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct brought against President Trump. Scott’s comments on NBC’s “Meet the Press” come as Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., made light of Trump during a speech announcing his resignation on Thursday. Franken said it was ironic he was leaving after numerous allegations of sexual harassment while Trump was in the White House after bragging about sexual assault. Scott said a further investigation was not needed because the allegations were brought to light during the 2016 campaign and voters chose Trump. “The people of this country have a responsibility of choosing our president, they have chosen,” he said. “The allegations were a part of the campaign. Most Americans if not all Americans that voted had the information before the election.”
  • Nikki Haley: Women accusing Trump of sexual misconduct should be heard.
  • Three Trump accusers to share their sexual harassment stories on ‘Megyn Kelly Today’ (NY Daily News) —  Three women who have publicly accused President Trump of sexual harassment will tell their stories in a morning interview Monday. Jessica Leeds, Samantha Holvey and Rachel Crooks will appear on NBC News’ “Megyn Kelly Today.” The women are among at least 20 accusers who say Trump harassed or abused them before becoming President. Sixteen of the women also plan to tell their stories of alleged Trump abuse at a press conference in the city Monday morning.
