WASHINGTON (WMAL) — Snow accumulation is in the forecast for the weekend in DC.

Kevin Witt, forecaster with the National Weather Service, said that a system moving into the area could produce an inch to an inch and a half along the I-95 corridor and areas in St. Mary’s County could reach up to four inches.

While black ice might not be a huge worry for this system, Witt did recommend keeping an eye out for slush that could make roads slippery.

“We want people coming home from a Friday night event, or a sports or entertaining event to allow a little extra time,” said Witts. He suggested the same for heading out on Saturday morning.

It is also important to start preparing for the snowy season, he said. “It helps to have a small shovel or shovel in your trunk, an ice scraper, a brush.. maybe a de-icer solution, kitty litter would be great,” said Witt.
