NBC News today got the skinny on the short list for Time Magazine’s Person of the year, the ‘winner’ will be revealed Wednesday on the Today show. Let’s have a look at the short list:
- Jeff Bezos (Dr Evil) founder of Amazon, Owner of the Washington Post
- Donald Trump – President of the United State, Rabble-rouser
- The #MeToo movement (More on this below), the twitter movement wherein women share their tales of harassment online, which gained momentum after the Harvey Weinstein story made the papers
- Kim Jong Un – Rocketman, short stuff, dictator
- Colin Kapernick – Failed quarterback, Kneeler
- Xi Jinping – Chinese communist, big shot
- The Dreamers – You know the ones
- Mohammed bin Salman – A saudi prince, up and comer
- Robert Mueller – Leftist hero, Man who would stop Trump
- Patty Jenkins – She directed Wonder Woman, and not a lot else
That’s the list kids! Of course the smart money is on Mueller, Kapernick or the #MeToo movement. Now NBC’s Today Show wrote up little paragraphs on each nominee, but one caught our eye here at the Chris Plante Show:
The #MeToo Movement The roots of the movement started last year after a 2005 audio recording of Donald Trump bragging in vulgar terms about how he treated women surfaced during the presidential campaign.
But after Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was flooded with dozens of sexual assault allegations, the movement gained huge momentum as thousands of women used the #MeToo hashtag to help demonstrate how pervasive of a problem harassment is.
First of all, a simple google search would tell you the ‘me too’ movement started some ten years ago, but made the news THIS year because of actress Alyssa Milano, who was sparked by the Weinstein story.

October 15. The movement clearly has NO roots with Trump and the access hollywood tape, nor was it kicked up then. The Today Show simply wishes it were so, and that is Journalism in 2017.
