  • Republican leaders are racing to find support for their tax bill just hours ahead a critical vote, harkening back to the health care bill debacle this summer that left them empty handed.
  • The Senate Republican tax bill, which had appeared to be cruising to victory, suffered a setback late on Thursday as lawmakers were forced to contemplate significant changes, including future tax increases, to help pay for the legislation.

5am – D Kate Steinle’s accused killer found not guilty of murder, to be deported (Fox News) Jose Ines Garcia Zarate was found not guilty Thursday of murdering Kate Steinle on Pier 14 in San Francisco in July 2015 in a case that sparked a heated national debate over illegal immigration and so-called sanctuary cities, and U.S. immigration officials said he will be deported. Zarate was acquitted of first and second degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. He also was found not guilty of assault with a semi-automatic weapon. He was found guilty of possessing a firearm by a felon. The jury had deliberated for six days. Steinle was walking with her father and a family friend in July 2015 when she was shot, collapsing into her father’s arms. Zarate had been released from a San Francisco jail about three months before the shooting, despite a request by federal immigration authorities to detain him for deportation.

6am – A White House Says Tillerson Is ‘Here,’ For Now (Daily Caller) President Donald Trump brushed aside reports Thursday that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s exit is imminent. “He’s here. Rex is here,” Trump said in the Oval Office when asked if he wants Tillerson to remain in his job. White House press secretary Sarah Sanders later told reporters: “As the President just said, ‘Rex is here.’ There are no personnel announcements at this time. Secretary Tillerson continues to lead the State Department and the entire cabinet is focused on completing this incredibly successful first year of President Trump’s administration.”

  • Mom of daughter, Heather, Air Force veteran, who lost her leg after a softball accident while playing for the Air Force softball team. While recovering, Heather’s parents (Vicky and John) spent 9 months in a Fisher House. Heather continues to play sports and participated in Warrior Games this past year. 

6am – D Joe Scarborough Says He Was Told Trump Has Early-Stage Dementia, Calls on Cabinet to Remove Him (People Politics) Joe Scarborough called on the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Donald Trump from office, adding that people close to the president have said he has shown early signs of dementia.

While speaking passionately on MSNBC’s Morning Joe Thursday, Scarborough said Trump is “completely detached from reality” and fueling the threat of a war with North Korea, making his presidency dangerous for U.S. citizens. “If this is not what the 25th Amendment was drafted for — I would like the Cabinet members serving America, not the president, serving America— you serve America and you know it,” Scarborough said. “You know you don’t serve Donald J. Trump, scam developer, scam you know Trump University proprietor, reality TV show host, you don’t represent him. You represent 320 million people whose lives are literally in your hands, and we are facing a showdown with a nuclear power and have you somebody inside the White House, somebody that the New York Daily News says is mentally unfit.”

If war comes, “the North Korean regime will be utterly destroyed.” If China doesn’t cut off oil to the Hermit Kingdom, “we can take the oil situation into our own hands.”

8am – D  Conyers hospitalized, Pelosi calls on him to resign (NBC News) House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and other top House Democrats on Thursday increased the pressure on Rep. John Conyers, who is facing multiple accusations of sexual misconduct and a House Ethics Committee probe, by calling on him to resign from office. Pelosi’s comments are a stark turnaround from her stance on Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” when she praised the Michigan Democrat as an “icon,” questioned who his accusers are, and said the ethics probe should be allowed to go forward. “Congressman Conyers should resign,” Pelosi told reporters on Thursday.
