Mom Who Sent Recorder with Bullied Child to School Charged

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) – A Virginia woman who sent her daughter to school with a tape recorder after the 9-year-old said she was being bullied has been charged with a felony.

The Washington Post reports that Norfolk police said in a statement that Sarah Sims was charged on Nov. 6. She was charged with interception, disclosure of wire, electronic or oral communications, a felony, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a misdemeanor.

Sims tells CNN that her daughter complained about being bullied at school. Sims says she reached out to administrators, but got no response.

Sims sent her daughter to school in September with a digital audio recorder in her backpack. School officials found it.

A Norfolk Public Schools spokeswoman told The Post that the district can’t comment on pending legal matters.
