Woman Killed, Firefighter Burned In Capitol Heights House Fire

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD — Heavy fire nearly took the roof off of a two-story home in Capitol Heights early Friday, trapping an elderly woman, and ultimately killing her.

Firefighters arrived at the home in the 6800 block of Wilburn Drive shortly after 3 am, and saw heavy flames engulfing the upper story of the house. Rescuers entered the home and pulled out a woman believed to be in her 70’s. She was taken to a local hospital, but died, and a firefighter suffered burns while trying to rescue her.
