WASHINGTON (WMAL) — The Central Union Mission in Northwest DC will be providing hot Thanksgiving meals at their homeless shelter for both lunch and dinner today.

Deborah Chambers, the Senior Director of Strategic Partnership spoke to WMAL about the meals.

“We have turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, greens, stuffing, cornbread and an assortment of pies,” said Chambers. There will also be “lots of gravy.”

The Central Union Mission, founded in 1884, has been providing food to the homeless every day since its founding, according to Chambers.

In addition to the meals being served today at their shelter, they provided food for 3,500 meals through a food pantry, which was still not enough to meet their demand. They invited those who were unable to get food through the pantry to come to the Thanksgiving meals being provided today.

“At Central Union Mission, we believe that no one should live hungry and homeless, especially at Thanksgiving,” said Chambers.
