RICHMOND (WMAL) — Today, Governor Terry McAuliffe declared the month of November to be Virginia Oyster Month.
In a statement, his office said, “November is the perfect opportunity for travelers and Virginians to explore the Commonwealth’s eight different oyster regions and to celebrate the Virginia oyster through numerous festivals and events across the Commonwealth.”
McAuliffe also encourages people to go out to the Virginia Oyster Trail which he announced the launch of two years ago, also in November.
“Virginia is a premier destination for oyster lovers to experience unique flavors, beautiful scenery, and wonderful pairings with our Virginia wine, craft beer and cider,” said the Governor.
Oysters are an important contributor to both the environment and the tourism economy in Virginia, according to the Governor’s office.
