ASHBURN, Va. (AP) – Washington Redskins rookie defensive lineman Jonathan Allen has a Lisfranc sprain in his foot and will miss some time, according to coach Jay Gruden.
Allen could miss three or four weeks, Gruden said while providing injury updates Monday. Gruden said kicker Dustin Hopkins has a hip injury that could also cause him to miss the Redskins’ upcoming game at the NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles and that they’ll work out some free agent kickers this week.
Cornerback Bashaud Breeland escaped serious damage to his left knee and could play against the Eagles with just a sprain. Gruden said safety Stefan McClure is week to week with a knee injury, further depleting Washington’s secondary depth.
With top cornerback Josh Norman still expected to be out with a broken rib and Breeland’s status uncertain, Gruden said facing Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz will be a great challenge for young defensive backs such as Quinton Dunbar, Kendall Fuller and rookies Fabian Moreau and Montae Nicholson.
Allen’s injury pushes second-year lineman Anthony Lanier into an expanded role.
