Murders in Baltimore, Marijuana in Colorado, Aids Laws in California – Liberal Success Stories

This morning Chris read off a list of the day’s Liberal Success stories.  Here they are to share with your pals.

  1. Baltimore has more Murders so far this year than New York and more per capita than Chicago

Baltimore is on pace for its deadliest year on record, on a per-capita basis and in total homicides.

This year is on pace to push 2015 and 2016 to second- and third-deadliest on a per capita basis, respectively, and to surpass the city’s record homicide total of 353 in 1993, when there were about 100,000 more residents in the city.

Baltimore has more homicides per-capita than Chicago. It also has more total homicides this year than New York City.

Homicides were up 16 percent over last year as of Oct. 7, according to city data. Through the same date, there had also been 547 survivors of gunshots in Baltimore this year, an increase of 4 percent over last year.

Robberies — 4,580 through Oct. 7 — are up 13 percent over last year. Carjackings, which account for 421 of those incidents, are up 44 percent.

Aggravated assaults — 4,519 — are up 15 percent. Burglaries — 6,029 — are up 10 percent

3 – Colorado Marijuana use #1 in the nation for Teens and Adults

DENVER – Marijuana usage among Coloradans, both young and old, has increased significantly since the drug was legalized and now the state ranks No. 1 in consumption in both age groups, according to a new report released Tuesday.

The spike in usage could be contributing to an increase in marijuana-related traffic deaths, the report found. Since 2013, RMHIDTA says marijuana-related traffic deaths more than doubled to approximately one death every three days.

In 2016, 20 percent of all traffic deaths were marijuana-related compared to only 9 percent six years ago, the report found.

(But its ok because they’re making a lot of money selling weed)

4 – California will have a harsher penalty for using the wrong pronouns, than for knowingly spreading HIV

California Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation on Friday lowering the maximum penalty for knowingly infecting or exposing a person to HIV to six months in prison — down from a maximum of eight years. Also last week, Brown signed legislation allowing for penalties of up to one year in jail for health care workers who “willfully and repeatedly” use the “wrong” pronouns to refer to a senior transgender patient
