GAITHERSBURG, MD (WMAL) — 32 students at Quince Orchard High School in Gathersburg were stung Thursday morning by a swarm of bees with 3 sent to the hospital as a result, officials say.
According to MCPS Spokesperson Derek Turner, a swarm of bees was “aggravated” around 8AM at a Dunkin’ Donuts across the street from the school.
30 stung students crossed the street and went to the school nurse for treatment. School officials called Montgomery County Fire and EMS shortly thereafter.
Montgomery County Fire and EMS Spokesperson Pete Piringer said that the department responded quickly to “reports of an allergic reaction and multiple students being allegedly stung by bees.”
Later, Turner confirmed that two students were taken to the hospital out of an “abundance of caution” with Piringer adding that their injuries were “non-life threatening.”
According to a recent tweet by Piringer, that number has now risen to three.
