WASHINGTON (WMAL) – A candidate hoping to be the first transgender person in Virginia’s House of Delegates is running a TV ad, and the long-time incumbent is making one of his own.
The ad called “Beat” is now airing across Virginia’s 13th District and mentions Roem’s nine-year stint as a reporter covering the Prince William County beat.
“As the lead reporter for the Gainsville Times, I wrote more than 2,500 news stories, vetting facts and holding politicians feet to teh fire,” Rome said in the ad.
Roem’s Republican opponent and long-time incumbent Delegate Bob Marshall told WMAL his opponent “knows how to manipulate facts.”
In response to Roem’s, ad, Marshall is now working on one of his own and told WMAL Friday morning a photographer was sitting next to him as we spoke to him on the phone. The two planned to go out Friday to take some shots around the community.
Marshall said he doesn’t have the campaign war chest that his opponent has to work with.
“He got more money from one donor, from Milwaukee, than I spent my entire 2015 race, but I will get these ads out way or the other,” Marshall said, referring to Roem.
Roem said on Twitter she spent six-figures on the ad, but appealed to people to donate to keep it up writing “TV’s expensive, so please donate today!”
Marshall said he has released TV ads in past campaigns, but not in the last two races.
In September Marshall announced he would not debate his opponent
Election day is November 7.
