FAIRFAX, Va. (WMAL) — Today, October 4, is National Coffee with a Cop day. Police departments in several different cities and counties across the country are sending officers to hang out at coffee shops with members of the community.

Locally, both Fairfax County and DC are participating. Sabrina Ruck, a Master Police Officer in Fairfax County said that this event “is a way to build and enhance our relationship with the public.”

Ruck says that when people go to get their coffee, they’ll see the police officer and be more likely to ask a question or voice a concern.

“It’s just supposed to be a fun, more uplifting environment,” she told WMAL. “There’s really no topic that can’t be discussed.”

Except your coffee tab. The officers will not be purchasing coffee for members of the public in Fairfax County.
