Hosts: Mary Walter and Vince Coglianese

Executive Producer: Heather Hunter

5am – A/B/C   Friday is ‘Car-Free Day’ in Fairfax County, DC Metro. This week has been Try Transit Week in Virginia, and officials across the DC Metro area are hoping residents will take it one-step farther Friday. Car-Free Day, according to its website, is an annual event when commuters are “encouraged to get around without driving alone in cars and instead ride a train, bus, bicycle, carpool, vanpool, subway or walk. For those that have the ability to work from home, telework also counts.”

5am – D         NORTH KOREA NEWS:

  • Kim Jong Un has just called President Trump “deranged” and said he will “pay dearly” for his threats.
  • China’s Decision To Stop Dealing With North Korea ‘Momentous’
  • Kim Jong Un Vows To ‘Tame The Mentally-Deranged’ Trump ‘With Fire’
  • North Korea Warns It May Detonate An H-Bomb In The Pacific

5am – E         Kimmel calls Louisiana senator ‘inbred’ during latest health care monologue. (Fox News) — Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel used his opening monologue Thursday to once again lambast supporters of the Graham-Cassidy health care bill — and at one point called a Republican senator from Louisiana an “inbred.” The host of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” has emerged as a strong celebrity advocate for universal health care since his infant son had to undergo open-heart surgery in April.  Kimmel made an announcement about his son during a memorable monologue at the time and has taken up the cause ever since. Part of his goal is for every child in the U.S. to have the same access to care that his son received. Kimmel said Thursday that ObamaCare opponents drag characters “out of the swamp.” Then he introduced a clip of U.S. Sen. John Neely Kennedy, R-La., appearing on Fox News Channel earlier in the day. The clip shows Kennedy saying the biggest opponents of the new bill were Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Kimmel. The senator said he thought Kimmel was “a funny guy,” but would not be mistaken for a health care expert.

6am – A/B/C “Sell by?” ”Display Until?” ”Best Before?” Consumer packaging group wants to reduce confusing food labels. NEW YORK (AP) — “Sell by?” ”Display Until?” ”Best Before?” These food date labels intend to help shoppers figure out what to throw away, but they’re also mixed up with deadlines for retailers as well. That causes confusion among shoppers who can’t figure out what they all mean on a can of beans or a bag of pasta. As a result, shoppers discard food that is either safe or usable after the date to the tune of $29 billion a year in the U.S. alone. Now, some of the biggest consumer goods companies including Walmart, Nestle, Campbell Soup Co., Kellogg Co. and Unilever, have agreed to streamline them by 2020. There are at least 10 different date labels on packages. The Consumer Goods Forum, a Paris-based network of 400 companies across 70 countries that is leading the charge, said Wednesday companies would have the choice of one of two labels. One, which highlights “Use by,” would be an expiration date for perishable items. The other label — “Best if Used by” — would apply to non-perishable items like a can of soup, though the exact wording will be tailored by region.

6am – D         Facebook will provide the contents of 3,000 ads bought by a Russian agency to congressional investigators. NEW YORK (AP) — Facebook is slowly acknowledging the outsized — if unintended — role it played in the 2016 U.S. presidential elections. Bowing to pressure from lawmakers and the public, the company said it will provide the contents of 3,000 ads bought by a Russian agency to congressional investigators, while also pledging to make political advertising on its platform more “transparent.” “I don’t want anyone to use our tools to undermine democracy,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook video and wrote in an accompanying post . “That’s not what we stand for.” The moves Thursday come amid growing pressure on the social network from members of Congress, who pushed Facebook to release the ads after the company disclosed their existence in early September. Facebook has already handed over the ads to the special counsel investigating Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

6am – E         Georgetown University police are investigating a swastika discovered in a residence hall restroom earlier this week. WASHINGTON — Georgetown University police are investigating a swastika discovered in a campus residence hall restroom earlier this week — the third swastika found on campus this month. John DeGioia, the university president, called the incident, coming amid the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashana, an “abhorrent act of anti-Semitism,” in an email to students. Campus police responded to a report of a swastika painted inside the stall of a women’s restroom in the LXR residence Wednesday evening, DeGioia said in the email.  The swastika was accompanied by “threatening and derogatory language advocated for violence against women,” he said. It’s the third time a swastika has been discovered in the residence hall in recent weeks and the second incident involving the LXR residence hall. “There is never a time or place for these acts, and this incident is even more disturbing during Rosh Hashana,” DeGioia said. “We stand in solidarity with our Jewish community and strongly condemn this act of hate, anti-Semitism, and sexism.” Campus police are investigating the swastikas and have ordered increased patrols in areas around residence halls, DeGioia said. Those found responsible for the placement of the swastikas “will be held fully accountable for their actions,” he said.

6am – F         Betsy DeVos uses her own plane when she travels — and does not bill the government. (Washington Post) — Unlike her predecessors, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos does not fly commercial airlines when she travels on the job. Instead, she takes her own private plane — and never bills the government, according to a spokeswoman. “Secretary DeVos travels on personally owned aircraft, accompanied by her security detail and whenever possible, additional support staff, at zero cost to U.S. taxpayers,” spokeswoman Elizabeth Hill said. “The secretary neither seeks, nor accepts, any reimbursement for her flights, nor for any additional official travel-related expenses, such as lodging and per diem, even though she is entitled to such reimbursement under government travel regulations.” The travel of President Trump’s Cabinet members has come under scrutiny after reports about their use of private and government flights at immense cost to taxpayers. DeVos has also faced criticism over her high-priced security detail: She is the only Cabinet member to get protection from the U.S. Marshal’s Service at a cost of nearly $8 million over eight months. The U.S. Treasury’s Office of the Inspector General is looking into travel by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and his wife, Louise Linton, who used a government plane on a trip that involved viewing the solar eclipse. Mnuchin also requested a military aircraft to fly him to his European honeymoon over the summer, but was denied.

7am – A         INTERVIEW — BRUCE KLINGNER – former CIA’s deputy division chief for Korea and a senior research fellow for Northeast Asia at The Heritage Foundation’s Asian Studies Center – discussed the latest news on North Korea.

7am – B         ENTERTAINMENT NEWS:

  • Tucker Smacks Down Rob Reiner And Hollywood’s ‘War’ With Russia. Fox News host Tucker Carlson had Hollywood director Rob Reiner spinning Thursday night when he came on his show to talk about Hollywood’s latest video declaring that America is at “war” with Russia. “When we say we’re at war, we are talking about a cyber war,” the 70-year-old film producer and member of the Committee to Investigate Russia group explained on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”
  • ‘Family Matters’ house in Chicago to be demolished. The “Family Matters” house. CHICAGO — “It’s a rare condition, this day and age. To read any good news on the newspaper page.” The home featured in the opening credits of the 1990s sitcom “Family Matters” has been approved for demolition, according to WGN. The house is where the fictional Winslow family lived and the iconic character “Steve Urkel” frequently visited. You’ll likely remember Urkel’s nasally voice, clumsy nature and classic catchphrase: “Did I do that?” According to DNA Info, the city approved a demolition permit for the home Tuesday. The permit allows the current homeowners to “wreck and remove” the two-story frame multi-unit residence. The owners plan to build a three-unit residence on the lot.

7am – C         Autumn equinox heralds beginning of fall. Break out all things pumpkin spice. It’s officially fall, ya’ll. While it does not guarantee, as many would hope, a drastic dip in South Georgia’s temperatures, it does herald the arrival of an important celestial event — the autumnal equinox. It will arrive precisely at 4:02 p.m. (eastern) today, marking the beginning of the fall season in the northern hemisphere, while the southern half of the earth moves into spring. Derived from the Latin word “aequus” which means “equal” and “nox,” or “night,” the word literally means “equal night.” While that is not entirely true, it is fairly accurate.

7am – D         FOX NEWS:

  • Shannon Bream to host new ‘Fox News @ Night’ prime-time show. Fox News Channel will add Shannon Bream to its primetime lineup with a live newscast at 11 p.m. ET starting Oct. 30, the same evening that Laura Ingraham’s new show kicks off. “Fox News @ Night” will be a live hour of hard news and analysis out of the Fox News Washington D.C. bureau, providing viewers with an extra hour of primetime coverage as part of the network’s revamped lineup. “For the past decade, Shannon’s insight into the inner workings of the Supreme Court and Washington has made her a major asset to our news division,” Fox News president Jay Wallace said in a statement. “Her experience, coupled with the relationship she has with our viewers, offers a perfect fit for the anchor position at 11 p.m. ET as we extend our live primetime programming.” Bream has provided coverage of every major election and Supreme Court decision since she joined in 2007 and has recently been working alongside Bill Hemmer on “America’s Newsroom.”
  • Fox News host responds to Jimmy Kimmel’s health care takedown. Fox News host Brian Kilmeade, one of the subjects of Jimmy Kimmel’s fiery Wednesday night monologue on health care, responded to the late-night personality’s remarks on both Fox News Radio and Fox & Friends on Thursday. During a segment on Kimmel’s response to the latest Obamacare replacement effort, Kilmeade led the discussion by referring to Kimmel as one of the “Hollywood elitists” “pushing their politics on the rest of the country.” Kimmel was “particularly” annoyed by this recent development because Kilmeade “kisses my ass like a little boy meeting Batman” when they see each other, he said.

7am – E         INTERVIEW – LARRY MICHAEL – Voice of The Redskins (in studio) – previewed Redskins vs Raiders on Sunday, September 24, 8:30 PM on NBC at FedExField, Maryland.

8am – A         INTERVIEW – GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE — Former governor of Arkansas, father of the great White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and new host of show on TBN

  • New TBN show “Huckabee” – premieres October 7th — his first guest will be PRESIDENT TRUMP: Mike Huckabee to Host New Talk Program on TBN. Former Arkansas Governor, presidential candidate, and longtime television news commentator Mike Huckabee is launching his own talk show for the second time. Huckabee will host an eponymous new weekly news and talk show on the faith-and-family Trinity Broadcasting Network which will premiere this fall. Huckabee will be taped in front of a live studio audience in Nashville, and will combine his current affairs commentary, along with guests from the worlds of entertainment, politics and faith. The format will be similar to that of his Saturday prime time program which aired on Fox News from Sept. 2008 – Jan. 2015, and was generally FNC’s most-watched weekend program during its run. Gov. Huckabee is widely known as one of the most outspoken Christian politicians on cable news, so a program on TBN seems to make sense.
  • Mike Huckabee: What happened to Manafort could happen to you. Besides the fact the evidence now lends credence to Trump’s much-ridiculed statement that the Obama administration had wiretapped him, Huckabee says the circumstances should be alarming to every American. “Why did they engage in that wiretap?” Huckabee asked during Fox News’ “Outnumbered” program. “This is frightening. If your government can just decide that it’s going to tap into your phones because you played a political role that somebody in the government didn’t want you to play, I’m sorry, that scares the bejeebies out of me,” Huckabee continued.

8am – B         MAXINE WATERS NEWS:

  • Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), who previously has called for the impeachment of Donald Trump, on Thursday told a Congressional Black Caucus Town Hall on Civil Rights that she expects other members of the black community to back her up: “Don’t come here and tell me, ‘Maxine, you keep on doing what you do.’ But when you gonna give me some support?” she asked. “How many of you in your organizations have said, ‘Impeach 45’ ?”
  • Maxine Waters calls Ben Carson an ‘educated fool’ Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) slammed Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson during a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation gathering on Thursday, calling him an “educated fool.” “Look at Ben Carson. My God. My grandmother would call him an educated fool,” Waters said.  “Here’s a man who has a reputation of being a highly competent surgeon, but when he talks about poor people, he says they’re the cause of their poverty. He doesn’t understand why you didn’t do what he did and why you didn’t make it like he made it. And he doesn’t know the difference between slavery and immigration,” she continued. Carson is set to testify before the House Financial Services Committee, where Waters serves as the top Democrat.

8am – C         Former Brat Pack star Anthony Michael Hall convicted of assaulting neighbor. Anthony Michael Hall, “Breakfast Club” actor, pleads no contest to assaulting neighbor. LOS ANGELES – “Breakfast Club” actor Anthony Michael Hall has pleaded no contest to shoving a neighbor who fell and broke his wrist. The 49-year-old Hall entered the plea in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Wednesday to one misdemeanor count of assault likely to produce injury. He was immediately sentenced to 40 hours of community service and three years of informal probation. Prosecutors say Hall and a next-door neighbor in Playa Del Rey got into an argument in September 2016 that ended with Hall pushing the man to the ground.

8am – D         INTERVIEW – ED HENRY – Fox News Chief National Correspondent and New York Times Bestselling Author “42 Faith”

  • Graham Cassidy bill – The Senate will vote next week on the latest bill to repeal Obamacare — but the outcome is anything but certain.
  • Trump EO on North Korea – President Donald Trump signs an executive order to expand his authority to target people and institutions doing business with North Korea. With the action, he aims to reduce funding going to the dictatorship’s nuclear and missile programs.
  • Congrats to his colleague Shannon Bream and the new primetime lineup

8am – E         LAWRENCE O’DONNELL APOLOGIZES:

  • Lawrence O’Donnell apologizes for vulgar off-air tirade at crew. MSNBC anchor Lawrence O’Donnell apologized on Wednesday for berating his crew off-air during an Aug. 29 taping of his show “The Last Word.” “A better anchorman and a better person would’ve had a better reaction to technical difficulties,” O’Donnell wrote on Twitter. “I’m sorry.”
  • Was Lawrence O’Donnell’s meltdown video leaked on purpose? TV insiders believe that senior NBC staffers leaked the instantly infamous tape of Lawrence O’Donnell’s meltdown, in retaliation for his antics during contract negotiations this spring. Mediate published an 8-minute video of O’Donnell raging at staff during breaks in an Aug. 29 live broadcast of “The Last Word,” screaming at the staff to silence people in the control room and stop a “hammering” sound. Sources connected with the leak tell Page Six the video was slipped to the site as a broadcast-quality digital clip — and that only a handful of people are believed to be capable of accessing and transmitting such a file. Multiple sources tell us that O’Donnell angered NBC honcho Andy Lack — who also oversees MSNBC — in May by tweeting to fans about his contract negotiations. One TV insider called the deal-making “tense and unusually public,” while another said O’Donnell slyly generated a “groundswell of ‘save Lawrence sentiment’ ” among viewers that “backed Lack into a corner.”
