Friday, September 1, 2017

Hosts: Mary Walter and Vince Coglianese

5am – A/B/C   Owners must surgically ‘debark’ loud dogs, court rules. The Oregon Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday that a southern Oregon couple must quiet their incessantly barking dogs by sending them to the vet to have their voices surgically squelched. The Appeals Court ruled “debarking” surgery is an appropriate solution to a noisy and relentless problem that neighbors living next to the dogs have had to endure for more than a decade on their rural property outside Grants Pass.  Debarking operations, also known as devocalization, are highly controversial. Groups such as the Oregon Humane Society and American Humane have spoken out against them. Six states have outlawed the procedure under certain circumstances, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association. The surgery involves cutting the vocal cords. Opponents say removing a dog or cat’s prime means of communication is cruel and unnecessary. Proponents say if done correctly, it can save problematic animals from being euthanized and still allow them to express themselves with a soft, raspy bark or muffled squeak.

5am – D/E     SPLC:

  • Southern Poverty Law Center Transfers Millions in Cash to Offshore Entities. Left-wing nonprofit pays lucrative six-figure salaries to top management. The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a liberal, Alabama-based 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization that has gained prominence on the left for its “hate group” designations, pushes millions of dollars to offshore entities as part of its business dealings, records show.
  • SPLC Says Army Bases Are Confederate Monuments That Need To Come Down. The Southern Poverty Law Center has declared three of America’s largest Army bases Confederate monuments “with the potential to unleash more turmoil and bloodshed” if activists don’t “take down” the Army bases.
  • The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has now branded hundreds of counties, cities, schools and U.S. military bases as potential catalysts to “unleash more turmoil and bloodshed” – because of their names.

6am – A         HILLARY NEWS:

  • Sens. Grassley and Graham say evidence suggests Comey’s decision not to file charges against Clinton was ‘prejudged’ (Politico) – Former FBI Director James Comey began drafting a statement rejecting the idea of criminal charges against Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton over her private email account about two months or more before Clinton was interviewed in the FBI probe, according to partial transcripts of interviews released Thursday by two Republican senators. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and Sen. Lindsey Graham said they obtained the transcripts from the Office of Special Counsel, a government watchdog agency that launched an investigation into whether Comey’s actions violated a federal law against government employees engaging in political activity while on duty.
  • COMEY PLANNED ON PARDONING HILLARY BEFORE THE INTERVIEWS WERE COMPLETE: (CBS News) –  Fired FBI Director James Comey drafted a statement to announce the conclusion in the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server before the FBI interviewed key witnesses, including Hillary Clinton herself, top Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee claim.  Committee chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, reached that conclusion from transcripts of interviews with people close to Comey and provided by the Department of Justice’s Office of Special Counsel (OSC). Those transcripts, the Republicans said in a Thursday letter to current FBI Director Chris Wray, show Comey had already drafted a conclusion for his investigation before interviewing 17 key witnesses, including Clinton, and before the DOJ had reached immunity agreements with former Clinton aides Cheryl Mills and Heather Samuelson.
  • CONFIRMED: Comey Decided He Wasn’t Going to Refer Hillary For Prosecution Long Before FBI Investigation Was (Katie Pavlich/TownHall) – According to new transcripts released by the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday afternoon, former FBI Director James Comey made the decision not to refer then Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for prosecution long before ever interviewing key witnesses. Members of the Committee allege Comey made the decision months before FBI agents were finished with the criminal investigation into her mishandling of classified information during her time as Secretary of State.  The transcripts were revealed in a letter sent to current FBI Director Christopher Wray, in which lawmakers are demanding an explanation and more documents surrounding the case.

Gasoline prices are rising steadily on both the spot and futures markets, meaning prices are going up and are unlikely to settle for some time. Colonial confirmed the closure that began in small increments on Wednesday and through the night into Thursday. Diesel and jet fuel deliveries were suspended last night. The gasoline delivery portion of the pipeline complex will be shut down later on Thursday. • MENENDEZ: New Jersey Senator Menendez’s graft trial could sway D.C. power balance. NEW YORK (Reuters) – More than two years after U.S. Senator Bob Menendez was indicted on federal corruption charges, the New Jersey Democrat finally faces trial next week in a case whose verdict could sway the balance of power in Washington. Menendez, 63, is accused of taking bribes, including luxury trips and campaign contributions, from a wealthy patron since shortly after he was first elected to the Senate in 2006. He has denied any wrongdoing, and his lawyer, Abbe Lowell, said in a statement that the senator “is in good spirits, has faith in the American system of justice, and is confident that when all the facts are heard, he will be vindicated.” Menendez is running for re-election next year despite the charges. If he is convicted, he would face significant pressure to resign, and the Republican-controlled Senate could seek to expel him. His replacement, at least until January, would be named by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, a Republican and ally of President Donald Trump. That would add to the Republicans’ 52-48 Senate majority only months after their bid to repeal former President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law failed by a single vote.
