Former Booster Club Treasurer Arrested for Embezzling Funds

WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Fairfax County Police Department arrested 58-year-old Robert Clinage for embezzling funds from the local high school Booster Club.

The Police Department has released a statement via Facebook:

Reston Police District- 58-year-old Robert Clinage was arrested for embezzling at least $60,000 from the South Lakes High School Booster Club. Clinage, who until 2016, volunteered as treasurer of the club. After stepping away from his position as treasurer, other members noticed a large amount of money missing from the booster’s bank account. The boosters conducted an internal audit of their account which initially discovered the shortcoming. A subsequent criminal investigation began in December 2016, and charges were filed in June of this year. He turned himself in on July 12 and was taken to the Adult Detention Center. Clinage was not an employee with the school. NOTE: Booster clubs are independent of school districts.Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
