UPDATE: Suspect Captured in Alexandria Road Rage Shooting

UPDATE: Maryland State Police say 58-year-old Ernest Stickell of Mechanicsville, Md.is now in custody. A motive has not been made public. The woman, who police say is from Bladensburg, MD is in stable condition at the hospital.

ALEXANDRIA — (WMAL) Alexandria Police Department have identified the suspect in the road rage incident on Wednesday morning.

According to the news release, the suspect was identified as 58-year-old Ernest Stickell of Mechanicsville, Md.

Below is the statement:

At approximately 7:56 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting. The initial investigation has shown that a “road rage” incident occurred between the occupants of two vehicles. The driver of one vehicle shot at the occupants of a second vehicle. Officers located an injured female, 33, of Bladensburg, MD, at the scene suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body. She was transported to an area hospital and remains in stable condition. The second occupant of the victim vehicle was an adult male who was not injured. 

Ernest Stickell, 58, Mechanicsville, MD, has been charged with Malicious Wounding and Use of a  Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. Stickell was taken into custody by the Maryland State Police this afternoon.

The Alexandria Police Department would like the thank the Maryland State Police, Virginia State Police, St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Office, and Fairfax County Police Department for their assistance with this investigation.

Alexandria Police confirm it was road rage that led one person to shoot a woman in another car around 8 Wednesday morning at the intersection of Eisenhower and Claremont avenues.

“The suspect vehicle fled the scene, and we do not believe that they’re in Alexandria any longer. We’re not releasing the suspect vehicle description right now,” said police spokesperson Crystal Nosal.

The woman who was shot is in the hospital in stable condition. The driver of that car was not hit. Their names haven’t been released.

Televised images show a black SUV with D.C. tags and a shattered passenger-side window.
