LISTEN: Virginia’s Republican Chairman: Trump is all in for Gillespie

Listen as Larry spoke with Chairman John Whitbeck of Virginia’s Republican Party regarding the 2017 Gubernatorial race.

During the interview, Chairman Whitbeck discussed President Trump’s support for the Republican candidate for Governor in Virginia, Ed Gillespie:

O’Connor: Real fast, tell me how you think the Commonwealth is shaping up. Trump came a lot closer than people expected in the Presidential race and I don’t think it was because of Northern Virginia. If you look at the numbers in Northern Virginia, the numbers were very similar. It was because so many people down state were motivated. The numbers that came out for the Republican ticket downstate in the rural areas …. huge. Can Ed Gillespie, can these guys get that kind of response in this election cycle?

Whitbeck: Well, yes they can. Here’s the thing, the President of the United States, for all this talk and the fake news out of the Washington Post about the President’s unpopularity, they’re in a bubble. They don’t understand what’s going on. None of the mainstream media understands what’s going on in America today. This President’s agenda is very very popular. It is very popular, everywhere I go around the state, Republicans are behind the President. People who are self-identified independents are behind the President. Only the far fringe left is so emboldened by their hatred for this President that gets all the attention. The average American likes what this President is doing. And I’ll tell you, Ed Gillespie has the support of the White House. I was in the oval office briefing him, President Trump and Vice President Pence the other day. They are all in for this race. They are all in to help Ed Gillespie. And with their help we will win because his supporters are passionate for this President. And if they turn out for Ed Gillespie, we’re going to have more votes than the other side.
