5am – A/B/C House Faces Vote on ‘No Sanctuary for Criminals’ Act, Which Defunds Cities That Flout Immigration Law The House is primed to vote on two major immigration bills this week, the so-called “Kate’s Law,” which sets mandatory minimum sentences on individuals who try to enter the country illegally more than once, and the ‘No Sanctuary for Criminals’ Act, which codifies the definition of sanctuary cities and authorizes the DOJ to withhold grant money from those found to be in noncompliance with federal immigration law. The toughest anti-illegal immigration bill remains on hold as Congress is set to vote on two anti-illegal immigration bills Wednesday that the White House supports.

Kate’s Law and the No Sanctuary For Criminal Aliens Act both work to fulfill President Trump’s immigration agenda. The president frequently mentioned the murder of Kate Steinle on the campaign trail. She was murdered in 2015, and a five-time deported illegal immigrant currently faces charges for the crime. If signed, the law would increase penalties for deported immigrants who return to the U.S. ICE Director: No Illegal Immigrant Should ‘Be Comfortable’ Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Thomas Homan said at a White House press briefing Wednesday that no illegal immigrant should “be comfortable” in the U.S. Homan said that people who enter the U.S. illegally “should not be comfortable” and instead be “concerned that somebody is looking” for them. However, many illegal immigrants who arrived as minors before 2012 can still feel comfortable as the Trump administration continues to honor the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals amnesty program.

5am – D The Tiger Oil Memos From the offices of the now-defunct but at one time Houston-based Tiger Oil Company come a batch of curiously entertaining memos, all sent by the firm’s irascible, tactless, and undeniably amusing CEO, Edward “Tiger Mike” Davis, to his staff. Tiger Mike’s management style was no secret within the industry; however, in the early-2000s, 25 years after his company filed for bankruptcy, his spiky inter-office communications famously appeared online for all to see, instantly widening his audience to include almost anyone with an internet connection.

5am- E Science Finally Realizes Atheists Are More Close-Minded Than The Religious (Daily Caller) New research has found what many conservatives have argued for years: Religious believers are more tolerant of differing viewpoints than atheists.The study found that while atheists may like to think of themselves as more open-minded, they’re actually less tolerant of dissenting opinions than their religious counterparts.“The main message of the study is that closed-mindedness is not necessarily found only among the religious,” Dr. Filip Uzarevic, a researcher at Catholic University of Louvain who co-authored the research, told PsyPost. Uzarevic confirmed that the religious and nonreligious each have their own particular targets of prejudice, but atheists and agnostics were generally less open to differing opinions than Christians.

6am – A/B/C Should the Bible be allowed to be taught in public schools? Gov. Matt Bevin publicly signs bill allowing Kentucky’s public schools to teach the Bible Public schools in Kentucky can soon teach reading, writing and the book of Revelation. At the Capitol on Tuesday, Gov. Matt Bevin gave his public “Amen” to a bill allowing Bible courses in public schools. Normally, a bill signing does not open with prayer, but in this case, it may have been appropriate. At a ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda, Bevin signed House Bill 128, which allows public schools to teach courses on the Bible. The bill’s sponsor says students need to understand the role the Bible played in American history. “It really did set the foundation that our founding fathers used to develop documents like the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights,” said Rep. D.J. Johnson (R-Owensboro). “All of those came from principles from the Bible.” The bill, which easily passed the House and Senate, gives local school boards the option of developing a Bible literacy class as part of their social studies curriculum. The course would be elective, not required.

6am – D Mark Steyn with Tucker Carlson last night Steyn ridiculed “the idea of converting yourself into a victim group of… I guess ‘journalist-Americans,’ the latest hyphenated victim group.” When talking about the Russia hysteria, Steyn brought up their obsession with the Malaysian plane that disappeared in 2014 “but at least there was a Malaysian plane!” He said that CNN’s Russia narrative is akin to “selling a bag that has all the packaging of potato chips, but there are no potato chips inside.” Steyn noted how the network asked Elmo what he thought of Syrian refugees, calling it the “least-nutty thing” CNN has done. Steyn said Elmo made for such a comparatively coherent subject that he would support Acosta being replaced by the cheery monster.

6am – E Women’s Group Accuses Trump Of Sexual Harassment For Telling Reporter She Has A ‘Nice Smile’ The journalist in question was Caitriona Perry, who has been the Washington correspondent for Irish state broadcaster Raidio Teilifis Eireann (RTE) since 2014. Trump’s comment about Perry drew some adverse reaction on social media. But she appeared to take the exchange in good humor and can be heard laughing in a video clip of the exchange. Trump told Varadkar, “We have a lot of your Irish press watching us,” referring to several Irish reporters who were present in the Oval Office for the call. In video posted to Twitter by RTE, he turns to Perry and says, “And where are you from? Go ahead, come here, come here. Where are you from? We have all of this beautiful Irish press.”

6am – F ‘Baby Driver’s Ansel Elgort To Play Young JFK In ‘Mayday 109’ As he prepares to rev up the Edgar Wright-directed Baby Driver for tomorrow’s opening, Ansel Elgort has been set to play young president John F. Kennedy Jr in Mayday 109, the true story of the future American president’s feats of heroism as a Navy captain during WWII. The film is a co-production between Basil Iwanyk’s Thunder Road Pictures and Beau Flynn’s FlynnPictureCo. Elgort and Emily Gerson Saines will produce alongside Flynn and Iwanyk. The producers are beginning the search for a director.

Bet Online, an internet gambling site, gives Phelps a 21 percent chance of winning. If somebody bet $100 on Phelps to win, they’d rake in $375 in winnings if Phelps pulls it off. Phelps is racing a great white shark as part of “Shark Week.” The Discovery Channel hasn’t provided any details on how Phelps will race the shark, so gamblers aren’t sure of the exact circumstances of the bet.

Sweeney, Jr., the assistant director in charge of the FBI in New York told the committee that street gangs in general “show no signs of decreasing memberships or a decline in criminal activity.” In fact, according to the FBI’s 2015 National Gang Report, memberships in gangs increased in 2013 to 2015 in 49 percent of jurisdictions. Sweeney told the members of Congress that the FBI estimates there could be up to 10,000 members of the MS-13 gang living in the United States.

8am – E  Montgomery County Public Schools Upgrading Security at Most High Schools After Rape Allegation Montgomery County Public Schools ordered $1.5 million in security upgrades to 22 of its 25 high schools, including the installation of new security gates, door locks and vestibules near entrance doors. The changes follow a two-month investigation of school building security, which the school district announced days after a rape allegation at Rockville High School.
