WASHINGTON — (WMAL/AP) DC police arrested two people in connection to the violence that broke out outside the Turkish Embassy last month during Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit.
The Metropolitan Police Department said in a brief statement that Sinan Narin had been arrested in Virginia on an aggravated assault charge.
It said Eyup Yildirim had been arrested in New Jersey on charges of assault with significant bodily injury and aggravated assault.
The department released no further details about the suspects but said additional information would be available Wednesday.
Eleven people, including a police officer, were injured after protesters clashed with Erdogan’s security detail outside the building.
DC Police Chief Peter Newsham condemned the incident, calling it “something that we will tolerate here in Washington, D.C.”
