Republican Rumble: Gillespie Pulls Out A Close Win In GOP Governor’s Race

VIRGINIA — (WMAL) In a race that remained painfully tight to the end, Ed Gillespie pulled out a win to become the Republican nominee for Governor, besting Prince William County Board Chairman Corey Stewart by just over one percent of the vote.

With all of the 2561 precincts accounted for, Ed Gillespie had 160,039 votes, ahead of Stewart’s 155,716 votes.  Frank Wagner picked up 50,345 votes in his third-place finish.

With absentee votes left to be counted, Stewart declined to concede the election, and his campaign is considering its options, including a request for a recount.

Stewart told supporters that the vote remains ‘too close to call’.
