LISTEN: National Review’s ANDREW MCCARTHY: Trump’s Travel Ban Won’t Help With America’s Security

Listen to The Larry O’Connor Larry spoke with Andrew McCarthy regarding Comey meeting before Congress.

During the interview O’Connor also asked McCarthy about President Trump’s travel ban.

O’Connor: One last question in regards to the President’s tweets. Specifically coming back and saying, the heck with the political correct count, I’m going to call this a travel ban. Is that a semantics thing? Does that actually undermine the arguments that his administration and his Justice Department are making at the Appeals Court level and perhaps next to the Supreme Court level? It is, I guess, logically a travel ban after the extreme vetting based on a lot of different criteria, then somebody’s going to get banned otherwise, what’s the point? So is this as big a problem as the media is making it out to be?

McCarthy: The President has turned it into a big problem. And first of all, he runs the Justice Department, so for him to come out and tweet that the Justice Department should have done this or that, not watered down the executive order, somebody ought to let him know that he signs the executive orders, not the Attorney General. The travel ban creates no marginal improvement in American security. And it makes harder to do what we have to do, which is to vet for Sharia Supremacism because the litigation, the posture that they’ve taken, is to tell the courts, ‘no no no no, this doesn’t have anything to do with Islam, these are just 6 countries that happen to be Muslim, majority countries that where the vetting systems aren’t there where we can rely on the information that we get from these other countries if we get any’. When it comes time to do extreme vetting, which he says is what he’s going to do, if we aren’t vetting for Sharia Supremacism, what’s the point? So I just think that the we’re getting almost no security improvement and we’re making it much harder to do what ultimately has to be done, which is vet for the ideology that fuels the terror.
