WASHINGTON – If you’re going to visit Arlington National Cemetery this Memorial Day weekend, leave yourself some extra time to get through a new security checkpoint.
All visitors have to go through a metal detector or be scanned with a wand at a checkpoint at the visitor center.
“Our primary mission is to ensure that all of our families and visitors are safe,” said spokesperson Barbara Lewandrowski
The new security procedures went into place at the beginning of the year, but lines are expected to be extra long this weekend as 15,000 people a day visit Arlington this weekend to pay their respects to those who have served.
