BALTIMORE (AP) – A day care worker in Maryland who police say fatally assaulted an 8-month-old girl during nap time has been charged with murder.
Police announced in a statement Thursday that officers were called on Tuesday to a day care where medics were performing CPR on a baby, who was taken to a hospital, where she died.
Police say their investigation found that 23-year-old Leah Walden, a caretaker at the daycare facility, assaulted the baby, Reese Bowman, during nap time, causing injuries that resulted in her death. Police don’t know of a motive, but say the baby was awake at the time of the assault.
Walden is charged with first- and second-degree murder, first-and second-degree assault, first- and second-degree child abuse and reckless endangerment.
Authorities did not elaborate on the nature of the injuries, and said they haven’t yet determined a motive for Tuesday’s attack, which happened during the baby’s nap time.
It’s not clear whether Walden has an attorney. Court records for her case are not yet available online.
