CAMP SPRINGS, MD — (WMAL) A slow-speed chase involving a stolen ambulance and more than a dozen police cruisers through Prince George’s and Charles Counties ended peacefully in the midst of morning rush hour on Allentown Road near Branch Avenue Friday morning.

At around 6 am, the ambulance was stolen from a bay outside Prince George’s Hospital Center. The unit is equipped with a GPS tracking device, so police had little trouble catching up with it.

The ambulance led police along the Beltway and onto Rt. 210, where it proceeded south into Charles County, before eventually turning around and heading back north into Prince George’s.

At some point, police used rumble sticks to blow out the ambulance’s tires, but the driver didn’t stop, and led police for several miles on a slow-speed chase, as the moving vehicle threw off bits of smouldering rubber and eventually drove on its rims.

The procession finally came to a halt on Allentown Road, and the driver was taken into custody.

Police from Prince George’s County, along with Maryland State troopers and units from the Charles County sheriff’s office took part in the chase.
