Warrant Issued For Former Redskins Running Back

ROCKVILLE, MD — (WMAL) When he was the star running back of the Washington Redskins, Clinton Portis liked to entertain the media and fans by appearing as wacky characters at news conferences, including “Coach Janky Spanky,” “Southeast Jerome” and “Sheriff Gonna Getcha.”

Turns out that last character may have hit a little close to home.

Montgomery County court officials have issued a warrant for Portis after he failed to appear to respond to a traffic citation on Tuesday.

Court records indicate Portis was stopped by a Montgomery County police officer at Old Georgetown Road and Woodmont Avenue in downtown Bethesda on January 3rd, and was issued a citation for driving without a valid drivers license or car registration.

Portis’ Florida license had been suspended after he failed to appear in court in that state – the same charge he now faces in Maryland.

Portis lives in Gainesville, Florida, but spends a lot of time in the DC area, and has been a staple of Redskins broadcasts in recent seasons.
