WASHINGTON — (WMAL) A Centreville woman pleaded guilty in Fairfax County District Court Wednesday to driving drunk and rear-ending the county police chief’s cruiser in December. A judge sentenced 40-year-old Christie Edgar to 10 days in jail and fines. She will also need to pay to have an ignition interlock device installed in her car, which has a breathalyzer that stops a car from starting if the operator is drunk.
“Justice has prevailed. It may not look on the surface that 10 days jail is maybe the most aggressive sentence that someone could have had, especially when you run into the chief of police, but her sentence wasn’t based on who she ran into. It was based on the offense,” said Kurt Erikson with the Washington Regional Alcohol Program.
Erikson added 10 days is the mandatory sentence in Virginia for someone caught driving with a BAC of more than .20. Edgar’s was .26 when she hit Chief Ed Roessler’s cruiser. Roessler calls that BAC horrific.
Roessler was taken to Inova Fair Oaks Hospital to be treated for minor injuries after Edgar’s car rear-ended his unmarked cruiser while he was stopped at a light at Lee Highway and Stone Road.
