WASHINGTON — (WMAL) A fire has closed the popular “Fish in The Hood” restaurant just south of the Georgia Ave-Pentworth Metro Station.

The fire broke out at around 8AM this morning and originated, according to officials, from a deep frying machine in the restaurant.

According to D.C. Fire Spokesman Vito Maggiolo “We did have two injuries, one to a firefighter and one to a civilian, both minor in nature.”

The firefighter was taken to the hospital.

The blaze spread through entire building, going “up the ductwork and to the roof level,” Maggiolo said.

The fire is now under control.

Fish in the Hood was a simple, no-frills restaurant that had up to this point survived the gentrification of the surrounding area with little change to its business.

While the owners are not injured, it remains to be seen whether the restaurant has fried its last fish.
