LISTEN: GREG GUTFELD Credits Andrew Breitbart for ‘Red Eye’

Listen as Larry spoke with FOX NEWS host Greg Gutfeld about the legacy of Red Eye.

As the era of Red Eye comes to an end, Gutfeld reminisced about the show’s beginning:

O’Connor: I really wanted to talk to you this week because the end of an era occurred last week. The end of Red Eye. Of course a show that you created, originated, founding host of for what 17 1/2 years?

Gutfeld: [Laughing] When did it start like 2007? So 10 years.. 10 years. And we mustn’t forget whenever we talk about how it started, you have to bring up Andrew Breitbart. Who you knew well and I knew well. And he was the guy who kind of helped get it together because I’d been working with him at The Huffington Post – which people also forget he launched – and that always makes people’s head explode. He launched The Huffington Post, where I wrote ridiculous things. And he suggested me, I guess, to people at FOX and that’s what got the ball rolling. So you know I always have to credit him. And he was also on the first week of shows. I knew Andrew Breitbart well, I don’t know if a lot of people know who go to Breitbart.com, know who he is. You know what I mean? From the first Red Eye …

O’Connor: Oh, I know I need to make that distinction now when I’m introduced to people or if I give people my CV, ‘Yeah I use to work a Breitbart’ and then I say, ‘Well let me explain’. [Laughing]

Gutfeld: I mean it is just the fact that he was such a goofball. And a lovable, eccentric, non-angry, not an ounce of anger. The only stuff that you see about him that’s angry is on YouTube when he’s yelling at some reporter….One of a kind, probably the strangest thing ever on television. And even when I go back and look at clips I cannot believe, not only that it was on FOX NEWS, but that it was on TV at all.

An excerpt of Gutfeld’s latest article, Greg Gutfeld: How to explain Trump to your liberal friends (not that they’ll listen), is below:

We are now completing the third month of the Trumpocalypse.

He’s been compared to every madman, every destructive movement, every consequential thing that’s happened in this universe since the Big Bang. People who never raised an eyebrow or their voice about Ebola or Isis or MS-13 are now concerned about this guy.

Logic tells you this reaction can only be wrong. In the realm of emotional debate, nothing is ever as evil, or as great, as you want it to be. The truth is almost always situated in some realistic middle that’s upsetting to a few and boring to many. [Read More]
