WASHINGTON — (WMAL) An arrest of an erratic driver who nearly ran over U.S Capitol Police Officers Wednesday morning is not related to terrorism, according to Capitol Police Spokesperson Eva Malecki.

During a press briefing Wednesday, Malecki said police saw a woman driving erratically down Independence Avenue SW around 9 a.m. and tried to stop her.

The woman made a u-turn and hit a car and almost hit officers.

After a short chase, the car was stopped at Washignton and Independence Avenues SW.

Shots were fired while police were arresting the woman, whose identity has not been made public, but nobody was injured.

“Although preliminary, this incident appears to be criminal in nature with no nexus to terrorism,” said Malecki.

The Capitol is open for business, but some parts of Independence Ave are closed.
