THURMONT — (WMAL) Frederick County Sheriff Charles Jenkins shared more details on the thwarting of a student’s plan to attack her school.
Initial reports say that 18-year-old Nichole Cevario was sent to the hospital after being removed from Catoctin High School March 23 when her father told school officials he feared she was planning an attack.
Police found evidence of her plans detailed in a journal, as well as shotguns and materials to construct a bomb.
Police plan to charge Cevario after she is released from the hospital.
Jenkins disclosed at a press conference Monday that Cevario was planning a mass shooting for April 5 and that she planned to die in the event.
The earliest date officers found in her journal was December 16.
Jenkins compared the plans for the attack to Columbine and Sandy Hook. “I’ve never seen anything like this,” he said.
